I only had to stay in a hotel / hostel once - Hotel Pivova, out from the city but near a metro. Built in an old brewery
Then a friend moved there so only had to stay at his house. He used to recommend the Ibis at Andel - relatively cheap, with metro nearby and 24h trams, close to bars around Andel metro, and the shopping centre there. You can walk to the old town or castle, but the metro and trams are very cheap anyway! There's also a huge model railway layout in the area, opposite the bus stop for bus 123.
Bizarrely, the 1 day pass for all transport is Kr100, whereas a 3 day pass is Kr330...

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much!

There is an offer from a local agency with air ticket. The problem is that airport taxes are ridiculously high. I should pay 86 euros!!!! Now....I am thinking if there are cheaper options to go to PRG by plane.

We stayed in the cheao hotel. The building looks very big and tall but somewhat look like "russian" building design. There is a public transport (either a bus or train) that takes you from the hotel to Prague. I don't recall name of the hotel as it was 4 years ago.

A wonderful hotel. I haven't stayed anywhere else in Prague so I don't know what the competition offers, but the service I received at Hotel Josef was close enough to perfect.

Give Hotel Anna a try http://www.hotelanna.cz/en/ - it's in Vinohrady near to the Namesti Miru stop on the Metro's A Line. My (now) wife and I stayed there for about a week while I was in Prague studying abroad and found it was a great in terms of bang for the buck. The staff was friendly, the hotel quiet and well maintained, and the breakfast buffet retty enjoyable.

Would this be the Ibis Hotel Mala Strana? I assume that the model railway you refer to is Railroad Kingdom. My Googling also found the Vytopna Restaurant in Prague where the drinks are served by model trains. Planning to visit Prague in November so this thread is great!

Looking at the link, yes that is the one. It takes up the whole basement of an office block, with a shop upstairs.

My advice to you would be to stay in a good hotel in the very centre, like somewhere around Wensaslas Sq or near the bridge.

It's a good idea to have really good facilities in the hotel as Prague is very small and you'll see it all in an afternoon. If the hotel is good at least you can hang out at the bar, go for a swim and sit around looking at other guests.

and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

There's always the barn at Zruda's place, rent would be cheap but you have to share with the horses!!

Are you sure you've been to the same Prague as I have? I've visted 8 or so times and never been bored, some visits never even entering the Stary Mesto...

Metamorphis Excellent, stayed there about a year and half ago WOW! And it was pretty cheap, I stayed with two other people in the room and what a fantastic location and fantastic hotel. Good breakfast that comes with staying at the hotel too. Just the perfect location for Prague loved that city too.

That's what I was thinking signol! I lived there for 3 weeks while I did a study abroad in grad school and definitely didn't get to experience all I wanted to see! There's no way you can see it in an afternoon! I also disagree with babybus advising to stay in the very city center - if the OP wants to save on money better to stay in an outlying district like Vinohrady and take the metro or tram to the city center.

Thank you so much, guys!
I am still not sure if I will go there or decide for something else. Right now, the biggest issue is taxes for CSA. They are amazingly high
