I was wondering, does anyone here have a favorite manufacturer of cold drink vending machines?
My personal favorite is Dixie-Narco. They seem to be the best quality and the most reliable. I especially like their BevMax 4 glass-front machine:
Does anyone here have a favorite make or model?

Here in the US, there is a growing trend of having machines with credit card readers, as well as bill acceptors that can give change in the form of bills (instead of coins). The Dixie-Narco BevMax 4s at Arizona Mills are equipped with them.

I saw one on Sydney central railway station that you paid by sending a text message to it, it then dispensed the drink and billed your mobile phone providor for it. Shame if there's network congestion!

Quoting ShyFlyer (Reply 6): That looks like the one at work that's always breaking down for various reasons.
As long as I get the item I paid for, I really don't care who made the machine.
Are you sure it wasn't one of these models:
The Vendo Vue is very unreliable compared to the Dixie-Narco BevMax 4.
Other possibilities include the Dixie-Narco BevMax 2 or BevMax 3, which are older versions of the BevMax 4. The BevMax 4 is the most reliable yet.
A third possibility is the Royal Vendors Vision:
I never used the Vision, so I don't know how it performs compared to the D-N BevMax 4 and Vendo Vue.

No idea who makes them, but the ones in Japan in use now are just fantastic. I can use my all-in-one commuter pass IC card to buy drinks anywhere in town from any vending machine. Just slap and push and you've got your drink to go.

I think the OP may be surprised to find that many people do not usually end up on hands and knees and/or moving the machine off the wall to figure out the make and model, they just take their refreshing drink and walk away

You'd be surprised how many people don't care about aeroplanes, they just get on, sit in their seat, be flown to another city, get off and walk away

The difference is that even though those people don't care about planes, most are well aware that there are people who are interested in them. Just like there are those interested in trains, ships, guns, trucks, etc. Until this thread, how many here ever even thought that someone could be interested in vending machines? Although, with the OP's history of starting threads about IFE systems, including model numbers, should have been a clue...

I don't know. The name "Dixie-Narco" sounds like some drug-runner from the south.
Is there a vending machine called the Dixie-Normous?

I think you didn't mean to double negate the statement, but yes, I was equally surprised to open this thread. I misread the title and expected a discussion on the drinks people like to buy from vending machines, not the machines itself.
To be honest, I've never even noticed an actual difference between them. Money goes in, drink comes out. (you can't explain that).

I bow to your extraordinary knowledge of vending machines!
Up till a few years ago my company used to just give us free beverages, but when the economy dipped they put in vending machines.
I don't think they are the exact machines you are showing, but they look quite similar.
The main thing that annoys me about the machines is they won't give you your change till you remove the product that's been dispensed.
But there's no where to put the product in the hallway were we have those machines!
Why not just drop the change at the same time the product is dispensed?
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to get over it.
I'm not a huge soda drinker.
Another issue is that the new vending machines are almost all stocked with soda and not fruit juices. I'd much rather have a bottle of OJ instead of a soda. Also they are not stocked with any sort of lemon-lime drink (7Up, Sprite, etc), which is my favorite soda. The closest they come to it is ginger ale.

I guess there isn't a site he can go to for vending machine enthusiasts? I can, of course, understand planes, and the non-av topics about trains, and to an extent the topics about buses, although not quite my cup of tea. But the topics about IFE manufacturers and vending machine makes and models? Is this kid messing with us?
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

I've heard there are escalator fans out there.
I understand there are also fans of...umm....urinals.
So, given all the different possible objects of which one could be a fan, I suppose vending machines aren't the worst.

Actually, there are indeed escalator fans on YouTube. I find elevators to be more interesting though.
Quoting ShyFlyer (Reply 10): It looks more like the photos in your OP.
Perhaps it could also be a Dixie-Narco BevMax 2 or BevMax 3, which are older versions of the BevMax 4.

Hmm.. how about one that doesn't jack up the price and then malfunction when you go to make your selection, basically robbing you of your arm or leg for a soda you do not get...
That has happened to me, but with a snack machine. They just raised the prices by a quarter for that. Still, I think it applies here.
