For long road trips:
I've only included cars which I (or my family) can realistically afford..hence there are no Lambos or Ferraris in my fleet. If I win the lottery..then its a whole different story

If money and space were not an issue, I would have quite a fleet with such cars as ...
2011 Audi R8 5.2 coupe (White with red blade)
2011 Audi Q7 V12 TDI (White)
2011 VW Golf GTI (Red)
2012 Mustang Boss 302 (Yellow)
1972 Mustang Boss 429 (Yellow)
2004 Mustang Mach 1 (Azure Blue)
2004 Mustang GT Convertible (Screaming Yellow and my actual current summer ride)
2008 Ford GT (Red with white stripes)
1968 Chevy Camaro SS (Black with red leather interior)
2010 Chevy HHR SS Panel (Blue and don't laugh ... with lots of $$$ its a great platform to go old school and make a nice show car)
2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 (Plum Crazy Purple)
1969 Dodge Charger (Plum Crazy Purple to go with the '11 Challenger)
2011 Mercedes Benz CLS (Silver)
1972 Ford Gran Torino (Red with a white Starsky and Hutch stripe)
1972 VW Beetle (Beige)
1972 Mini (Red)
... I'm sure I'd add a few more as time and space permits
More realistically though ...
2012 Mustang Boss 302 (Yellow)
2011 Audi Q7 4.2 TDI
2004 Mustang GT Convertible (Screaming Yellow and my current summer ride)
Yet more realistically ...
2012 VW Tiquan 2.0T (Silver)
2004 Mustang GT Convertible (Screaming Yellow and my current summer ride)
And my actual fleet as of now ...
2007 VW City Jetta 2.0 (Black)
2004 Mustang GT Convertible (Screaming Yellow)
Quoting af773atmsp (Thread starter): Then there's my ultimate dream car - and to please Superfly..
Nice!
Well I already have one that will remain in this fleet.
1977 Lincoln Continental Town Car
1970 Mercury Marquis convertible
1978 Lincoln Mark V Emilio Pucci or Bill Blass Edition
1974-76 Mercury Cougar XR-7
1968 Mercury Park Lane convertible Colony Park
1982-84 AMC Eagle Limited wagon.
For off-road purposes.
1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham
Modern luxury car as an everyday driver.
1987 Chrysler Lebaron convertible
Converted to rear-wheel drive with 360cu" V8 engine.
Would have to make a custom fitted frame underneath to make the car body-on-frame.
I think the ultimate sleeper, besides the flared fenders you'd think that it was another E-class driven by some old blue blood on their way to the country club.
And a Bentley Turbo... don't particularly care what vintage but I like the earlier ones
Then I might need something I could daily drive, so I'll take something practical like a Subaru Outback.

Quoting TSS (Reply 7): Interesting combo, since the "Starsky And Hutch" Gran Torino was a '74-'76 model. It would definitely be unique, though.
I wouldn't mind having a '72 Ford Gran Torino Sport fastback-
True. The reason why I'd want the '72 though is that most people I know figure I'm gonna be a spitting image of Walt Kowalski once I hit that age so it would be a great fit for me I probably would add a '74-'76 further down the road once space permits
Quoting ACDC8 (Reply 5): 1972 Mustang Boss 429 (Yellow)
And that should have read a 1969 ... my mistake, had Mr. Daniels as a guest the night I posted
Also, I'd love to add a mid-late '70s panel van (doesn't really matter with make or model) complete with the bubble window on the rear quarter, shag carpeting, mini bar and couch ... God I miss those

I'm a fan of leaving lookers saying, "what the hell is that?" Everyone knows that anyone driving around in a Ferrari or Maserati are probably dicks, and Mercs and BMWs are just too common.
So here's my garage:
A 1968 Monteverdi 375
A Weismann MS3 Roadster
A Lamborghini LM 0002
And a Vector W8

Thanks for making me flash back to my mis-spent youth!
The make actually does matter with '70s panel vans:
Chevrolets and GMCs suffer from an uncomfortable driving position and are the hardest to work on, plus to my knowledge the "long-tail" versions only came with the 1-ton/8-lug chassis.
'75 and later Fords have the biggest doors, the most comfortable driving position, are relatively easy to work on, and "long-tail" versions can be found with the 3/4-ton/standard 5-lug chassis, but they're also the most unapologetically truck-like in their handling behavior.
'70s Dodge vans have small-ish doors (mitigated somewhat by the availability of a single rear door option), a reasonably comfortable driving position, good handling (by full-size van standards), are surprisingly easy to work on, and can be found in "long-tail" versions on all chassis ratings, plus their relatively smooth flanks lend themselves better to lurid airbrush murals than GM or Ford vans of that period.
Just remember to avoid the sliding side door option on all '70s vans like the plague, as that feature wasn't perfected until the advent of the minivan in the 1980s.

Ooo, I forgot about that one! I'd have this version for taking a bunch of my friends to a golf outing. Maybe a corporate taxi service on the side.
On a slightly related note, my mom, in high school, a PUBLIC highschool, mind you, drove a red 190SL. Yes, she was extremely spoiled, and I gave her and my grandpa so much crap for getting rid of the car. And no, she never gave it the slightest ding, she was and still is a damn good driver. She did a few rallies and track events too.
If all you care about is amazing AWD performance and lots of speed for cheap, it's a damn good car. Otherwise, it's pretty blah. My friend has a 2011 WRX hatch, with a few mods. It's actually faster than a stock STI now, and he put less than $1000 in it. Those boxer engines sound glorious with a straight exhaust too.
You will be getting a phone call from me if the time ever comes to purchase one
I'll agree with the sliding door vs. swing open doors though, I've always liked the swing open doors better, they looked better and even offer a bit more useful space for shelving and what not.
