Anyone in here who's gotten a ticket from the law enforcement regarding public urination?

I got mine last night while *cough* relieveing myself outside the local pub...i really thought that i was being cautious and out of sight enough but sure enough a cop car rolled to a halt about 10m from me. It was a female cop too which made it extra embarrasing.   Crap!

€80 was the damage...extremely unessceray such. I can only blame myself though.

I hate to say it, but you're lucky it's just that. Here in the land of the "free" there are some states where that can get you put on the Sex Offender registry.

I've once got a warning from a cop after a night with partying, etc. Some of my friends and myself decided to urinate in a park, when a cop car saw us, and told us to "retract the hoses" or they would fine us..

Ahahah, that is ridiculous. I better check whether Illinois is one of those states.

There is the old story of a Canadian that was caught by the RCMP relieving him self under the stands at an motorcycle ice race. When he went to court the judge as how cold was it when you were relieving your self outside in the open. The defendant says -20 degrees. The judge thought for a few seconds and said case dismissed you have suffered enough!

Yet another reason why some States' Sex Offender laws need revision. The Sex Offender registry is great in practice, but it's application is often far too broad in scope. Get on that list for something as minor as public urination, and your life is ruined.

Believe it or not, this subject has "more sides" to it than many may realize. Why do I say that ? O.K........you mostly think of people who "pee" in public, as being out drinking, thus intoxicated and therefore somewhat unconcerned with public decency. I think in 90% of cases, this is indeed the case. But, like everything else, there ARE exceptions. I'll point out one exception most younger people may be unaware of..................

As everyone knows, when we first feel "the urge" to pee, we usually have some time to get to the proper place to "take care of business". For me personally, that "ability to hold it" changed dramatically about 4 yrs ago. I was diagnosed as having prostate cancer. Both PC and "BPH" ( benign prostatic hyperplasia ) ( or enlarged prostate ) cause difficulty in urinating.

BPH can be treated with drugs, ( flomax, etc.) but PC needs one of 3 courses of action, or you will very soon be "pushing up daisies". The first is surgery, ( cut the thing out and throw it in the trash ), or treatment with radiation. The latter has two ways to accomplish; a daily visit to the hospital, every day for 6 months to get "zapped" by a "machine", OR "brachytherapy", ( which involves "inserting" in my case, 96 little "seeds" of radioactive iodine enclosed in a titanium "shell" into the prostate gland.

While the implant route isn't exactly "cheap", it does cost about half what direct radiation does, and only requires about 3 or 4 trips to the hospital, ( and statistically, the results are just as good, and possibly even better. ) So, I chose the implant route. it seems there is an "upside" and a "downside" to everything. The "downside" is, jabbing 96 big needles into the prostate gland ( about the size of a walnut ) leaves the thing severely traumatized; and traumatized prostates DON"T WORK like normal ones work; the difference being, when the aforementioned "urge" happens, you damned well better be very near to a "proper place" to take care of it; ( like maybe no more that 6 feet sometimes ); any farther away and you will often require a change of "undies" and some dry pants.

But that's not the worst part; the worst part was, for almost a year, you "get the urge", but you CAN NOT produce one drop ! It's very difficult to explain how this feels; I can tell you this; when your bladder is full, it's under pressure, and you are not the least bit worried about where you are ! ( if you "get my drift" ) I have always said, there is a solution to every problem; the "solution" to this problem is in learning to "do-it-yourself" catheterize ( which is a skill some men find extremely difficult to learn )

So...........three days after having this "severe trauma", ( and before "learning this skill" ), I'm driving down a very busy street in downtown Terre Haute, 2 blocks from my doctors office, and I get "the urge", and I thought I would be obliged to just "do it" right there, but the problem was, I couldn't "do anything", ( including "think" ! ) ( never drive when you can not think )

I was able to get off the street and into a parking lot, and was able to get just enough "relief" to make it to the doctor's office, ( where the sweet young nurse "instructed" me as to how to operate "the hose".

So..........if you think having "the urge" after a night on the town is bad, believe me, you haven't seen anything yet !

Happened to one of the kids who lived in my dorm in college...Level 1 Sex Offender for being caught taking a leak in a university courtyard.

(PS, this happened in MA)

I believe Level 1 is the lowest possible, with Level 3 being most-likely to re-offend and poses the worst threat to society.

A friend of mine was charged with being a sex offender for urinating outside (alone, around back of) a CLOSED rest stop bathroom by Missouri State Police. They had closed the rest stop facilities because there was too much "open sexual activity" taking place in the restrooms, and boarded up both the ladies and mens restrooms. My friend was from St Louis and had no idea why the rest stop had been closed, but apparently the cops wanted to "bust" people for anything they could. This was 10 years ago and he still has issues with employment and security checks into his background.

Ridiculous charges and definitely NOT in the "spirit" of the sex offender law, in my opinion.

This is something I don't understand: Drunk people *usually* take time to find a hidden or out-of-the-way spot to do the deed. If someone is at least trying to use some discretion, I don't understand why they would need to be listed as sex offenders. It is the same problem I have with public nudity: If someone is simply lying on the lawn of a park on a warm, sunny day with only sunglasses on, how is that being a sexual deviant?

Public urination is a civil offense. What gets people in trouble is when the cop decides that you meet the standard for indecent exposure. Just a "minor" technicality.

And if there are minors around... you're pretty much screwed.

It all depends on the level of intoxication and where the person is at. Drunk people in a usual spot will know where to properly relieve themselves, those that are completely smashed and/or in an unfamiliar setting will find a hidden spot.... behind a tree. Hell, I've seen some literally piss their pants.

Agreed. A public intoxication citation should do the trick.

I asked my cousin about this topic. He is with SAN police. He is not aware of any jurisdiction where public urination is a sexual crime. He feels, as most of us do, if discretion is used, public urination is not a sexual offence. But, personally, I would check with your local laws. Here in STS it is a crime to expose yourself in any way. Even women lying topless in their our own back yard not doing anything but sleeping! Prudes....

Just to mention, the penalty for urinating in the public in Germany usually is € 35,00. But that's it. The pillory was done away with a couple of hundred years ago and is nowadays only used for fun on medieval marketrs.

wouldn't it be more practical to punish the intruders sneaking a view? Sometimes people have to stand on a ladder in order to complain with the policre that there's that topless lady in her backyard.

I would find somebody who peed in their pants much more offensive and indecent, I would feel much more indecently exposed if I had to walk home in peed pants. And let's face it, that is usually the alternative to relieving yourself behind a bush.

When I was in high school I walking down a sidewalk, at night, and I walked down a ditch to take a whiz. A cop who was driving down the road saw me go down in the ditch and though I was avoiding him (I couldn't tell it was a police car coming at me in the dark). He shined a his spot light down on me and ask "what are you doing down there" I told him I was taking a leak. He said "ok then, carry on" and he drove away.

A buddy of mine got arrested in St. Louis for peeing on the side of a building, on St. Patrick's Day. He had to spend the night in jail. I went and picked him up the next day and took him back to his car.

I don't know of anyone who has actually been charged with sexual crime relating to public urination. There seem to be a lot of stories, but they are more of the "I heard of a guy who" type of stories.

Driving long stretches on some BC highways you sometimes have not choice but to piddle outside ... could be quite awhile before you hit a gas station or rest area ... during the winter months the distance between pee breaks can be even longer since many highway reststops are closed for the season. All one can do is pull over and piddle.
