Wrecked My New Car

So, I am driving on I-35 in Houston today, in my brand new Volvo. All of the sudden this brown painting van swerves over 2 lanes, barely misses and Range Rover, and absolutely rams my passenger side into oblivion. Then, a Ford Tauras smashes into my back going over 60 MPH. My new (3 days old) Volvo (my pride and joy) is now completely totaled. It has over $23,000 worth of damage, the insurance adjuster told me. Thankfully noone was hurt.

I agree with Heavymetal. Just the topic alone hurt to read, but the description was killer. Glad to hear nobody got hurt. Hope you get your rig or a new one soon.

OUCH. Man, I am sorry.

Thankfully, you were driving a Volvo and that you're alright. (Be sure to see a doctor because the effects of an accident are often not immediately felt.) Our family drives a Volvo and we wouldn't trade it in for anything. Volvo's safety features are unparalleled.

New V70? Those things are hot.

Three days old? Ouch. I remember just a few days ago you posted on this board about how proud you were of it, so I know that must be rough. But based on what you described, wouldn't it not have been your fault? Surely you're receiving compensation, right? I'm just wondering; best of luck to you!

Hell yeah it wasn't my fault. Their insurance company is going to cover all of it (I think).

I remember you posting how excited you were to have a new car. And now it's WRECKED? That really sucks man. I'm sorry. Are you gonna get the EXACT same car as a replacement?

Flight Level--

I LOVE the S60. Just as hot. We rented an S60 down in Florida last summer so we could "test drive" it, if you will. It's handling and pick up are sweet. But I will continue to dream for now.

Hope you're well and good luck with the compensation process.

Was the van driver asleep?!? Did he have any excuse?

If someone wants to back me up, whats the rule for someone who hits you from behind? Aren't they totally liable because the driver behind a car should always be able to stop?

Sucks man, glad you're ok.

The driver claimed that he had an asthma attack. I don't buy it. The person that hit me from behind is not liable for anything.

Man , I feel for you=( , I had an accident 3 nights ago with my 2001 Malibu..exactly one year old...not nearly as nice as yours...but I was driving home late at night...doing about 50 on a fairly straight road.....speed limit was 55...I didnt see a gravel patch...I hit the gravel and the car fishtailed went across the road hit a mailbox...I flipped twice and hit a telephone pole...the car was totalled needless to say...Im only 17 so no telling how high my insurance will go...*sigh* but the insurance is paying up and the HP said that the accident wasnt really my fault and I didnt get a ticket...so yay...but lol...Its all good that no one was hurt in both of our wrecks , cars can always be replaced=)

Well, at least his insurance should cover it. I was hit from behind in my dad's new Mustang a few months ago, and the person at fault didn't have insurance. Luckily, the damage barely shows, as the person who hit me was actually hit from behind by someone else and pushed into me, so the impact wasn't severe. The person actually at fault had no insurance and no employment, but interestingly she had a car that was less than a week old (which was nearly totalled). Go figure...

That does suck, but I think you mis-typed as I-35 doesn't run through Houston. Maybe I-45? What part of town was it in?

Man, that sucks. Hey, misery loves company, if it makes you feel any better, one of my coworkers bought a brand new convertable and got T-boned before the back tires were off the lot. I feel bad for you. But you'll get a brand new car anyway, no? 100 miles is too many for a Volvo anyway.  Big grin

Asthma attack my @ss. I've been on I-45 before, and it's full of terrible drivers, as is Houston in general. The person who hit you from behind isn't liable. In a chain reaction accident, the person who originally caused the wreck is completely responsible for the wreck. Sorry about your car. I hope the guy in the brown van's insurance covers the cost of it all.

174thfwff, the totaling price is completely based on the insurance company who take into account the damage, your insurance, and how much the car costs. Plus, it is only in the preliminary stages of the insurance stuff, etc. I am sure that they will also find some internal damage to the engine, etc. which will rack the price up.

Okay, well I don't think you should use the term totaled. That's when the cost of fixing the car is more then or equil to the price of the car. Or at least to 3 car insurance companie in my area.
