OK, I attach the source from the Newspapers site here, but your PC might not be able to process this Japanese unless you install Japanese decoder to your browser. http://www.sankei.co.jp/news/020614/0614spo135.htm
My interpretation for this articles is as follows;
----------------------------------------------------------
Sufferings with Colonel Sanders again;
On 14 at night, in Sannomiya Kobe a doll of the Colonel Sanders, standing in front of the branch shop of the fast food shop Kentucky Fried Chicken, received "violence" from the crowd excited by the victory of the representative of Japan of soccer for the World Cup.
It was the second sufferings with the Colonel Sanders, following the happening in 1985 when the Baseball team
Hanshin Tigers won the Championship (in the Japanese league), in which the same Colonel Sanders doll was thrown to Dohton-Bori River at Minami Osaka.
A man of the shop told that about 8 o'clock someone lift up and threw the doll for a few meter. Young boys among the crowd kicked and punched with sitting down straddling the doll rolling down. The doll was seriously injured, with his wrist removed and taken away.
The shop man of 33-years-old was angry furiously, saying
"I never allow this thing to happen!"
--------------------------------------------------------
At the same night it is reported total 1000 people jumped
diving into the Dohton-Bori River at Osaka.
