From what I understand, it is only an ad for the Super Bowl. IMDB.com doesn't show a second movie coming out.

It is indeed an ad.

Really it's a rather sad commentary on life. Going from being a cool teen driving a Ferrari to a middle aged guy in a Honda CR-V? Not good.

Actually it's a good life lesson. Being a spoiled bratty teenager that ditches school, convinces his friend to steel his parents property which ultimately destroyed a rare, exotic sports car ends up living a sad, less than mediocre life with just a lame Honda.

Not to nitpick, but it was a Porsche 928 in the movie, not a Ferrari

The Porsche 928 was in Risky Business. The car in Ferris Bueller's Day Off was a Ferrari 250GT California Spyder although the actual movie cars were replicas built on MG chassis. Apparently the movie drew attention to the replica makers such that they were sued and went out of business.

Actually much less than that. It was more like 50-60.

If you haven't already seen the commercial, here it is - actually featuring Matthew Broderick playing himself:

You must have confused him with Sarah. For someone who will turn 50 in 2012, he still has a lot of the boyish look like he had when he did Ferris Bueller in 1986.

Great commercial but the CR-V just plain sucks.

You are right, of course. Sorry, saw both of these movies an long, long time ago and old age is taking its toll on my memory - my sincere apologies. Going back to my old folks home now.......
