So today I went to see Star Wars - The Phantom Menace at the cinema which is rereleased in 3D. It has been ages since I have last watched a Star Wars film, and now I am probably going to have to go buy all the others and watch them all in one weekend.
So out of all the Star Wars films which one is your favourite? Mine has to be Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope. You got to love the Death Star with Darth Vader and the Stormstroopers!

A New Hope or Emprie Strikes Back. Maaaaybe Revenge of the Sith.
The prequels are bleh...so much GL could have done. Instead he tries to make them a three part love story that falls on its face. I didn't even feel Anakins conflict at the end. Hayden should never have been cast to play Anakin. I would've loved to see the scene of the Rebel Alliance forming included in ep.III...such a key to the original three. I could talk all day abou Star Wars but I'm off to take a shower.
So we beat on against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

If anyone picks any of the prequels, they should just insert their head into a meat grinder right now.

Now I do remember the first one in movie theaters, STAR WARS. THAT WAS THE TITLE. No IV, no "a new hope" or anything like that. thats what I call it, just "Star Wars". Same with The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, there are no numbers in the damn title.
'END RANT'
I think Empire was the best, but Star Wars just had the OMFG that WAS AN AWESOME MOVIE thing to it the made you turn right around and get back in line to see it again, and again, and again. I think I saw/seen it 10 times, spending all my lawn cutting money that summer, which was a lot of lawns at $5 a lawn.

I can i get an AMEN!
Star Wars the original is my favorite, followed by ESB, then ROTJ...
then the xmas special and then any of the ones from the so-called "prequel trilogy" I'll take the sillyness of the SWCS over ANYTHING with Jar-Jar in it!

Tough choice, but i would give the edge to "Attack Of The Clones" for it's story line of the coming danger ahead of a coup of the dark side which lies within the senate itself. And the romance and last peaceful relationship between Anakin and Padme as Anakin begins his lust for power turns away from the Jedi. But overall,it was done well.
The worst was "The Phantom Menace." Mr.Menace didn't make a presence until late in the film.Like Darth Vader, the Menace, who was given the title of the movie, should have been a threat in the opening scenes.

Hmmm.... Not sure if you are serious or just trolling?
Everything about the prequels was wrong. No chemistry in the acting, and everything felt so forced and unnatural. Probably because Lucas sacrificed storytelling for CGI interaction. The stories were just not as clean and crisp as they should have been, and the actors might as well have been pulled in off the sidewalks.
To me , Star Wars with the original Opening credits and John Williams score opening over the titles opening to a space chase was the greatest of the 6.
I still wish someone had decided to make episodes 7,8,9 out of the Timothy Zahn Heir to the Empire book series.

While that may have been true for the first theatrical release, today, the official title is indeed Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope

It seems A New Hope was added at some point in time after the original VHS tapes were released. Perhaps durin the release of the prequels or DVD editions.

Poor story, bland characters, lots of boring fillings, everything in the CGIs and not much in the screenplay... I watched them once in the movies and never did again since then.

Return of the Jedi overall, but for the prequels I will have to go with "Revenge of the Sith." One issue I have with the prequels (besides the horrible acting) is that they should have made the Star Destoyers and Storm trooper uniforms excatly the same as the original movies, that really annoyed me. The saving grace for the prequels is that the fight scenes were pretty damn good.

Hmm, tough one. I have a soft spot for "Return of the Jedi" (the Ewoks are just amazing) but not sure you can beat the storyline and memorable scenes from the original one (what they now call "The New Hope").

'END RANT'
Are you telling me that at the end of Return of the Jedi the hologram for Darth Vader is not played by Hayden Christensen, the worst actor in the history of the world? Get out of here!
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

Empire and Return always had the numbers in the opening scroll.

Agreed, Darth Maul was an awesome character that had such awesome potential that could have carried on quite well in episodes 2 and 3, along side Count Dooku and General Grievous

Absolutly, being a 5 year old boy that never was in a theatre before, seeing that scene sticks with you for the rest of your life

Episode IV A New Hope was added during the 1981 re-release of the film after Empire was released in 1980.
For me, the original trilogy in their respective order were my favourites. As for the prequel trilogy, I enjoyed them all especially Episode 3. A lot of people complain about Episode 2 being boring and not up to par with the other films but I disagree, I thought it was a very well made film showing Anakin's slow slide towards the dark side and his emotions for Padme.
Episode 1 is by far my least favourite, after waiting so long for the film, it was an utter dissapointment thanks to Jar Jar, Boss Nass, a poorly casted young Anakin, over extended pod race scene, very little screen time for Darth Maul and one of Liam Nesson's worst roles ever. Ewan McGregor was really the only character that actually made the movie worth while and I find he really helped the role of Obi Wan grow in the following films.

Quoting kaitak (Reply 20): Anyone know when Episodes II and III will be coming out in 3D?
From what I've read, it takes about a year to convert per movie and I read that Episode 2 comes out in 2013 and Episode 2014, but I've also read that both episodes are due out in 2013 but I haven't seen any official dates yet.

I think ESB was the best one overall but I remember going to see the original with my girlfriend on the day it opened. We really didn't know what to expect and I have never been and probably never will be as blown away by a movie as I was that day. The special effects were light years ahead of anything else at the time. The story was really well written, kept us on the edge of our seats. The action sequences, especially the rebels' attack on the Death Star were simply amazing.

Empire Strikes back easily.
Of the prequels I did like Revenge of the Sith. I think they did a pretty good job of tying the new movies to the old movies.
I think the prequels (as well as Matrix 2&3) had too much to live up to. The first movies were so groundbreaking that they would have had a really tough time matching the originals. Very seldom are sequels on par with originals. The Godfather 2 is one of the few that comes to mind.
