They beat Ryanair to it!!!  eek

http://promos.airnz.co.nz/gas/straightup/

Fares start at $9. They have three options: StraightUpFARE - carry-on bags only, StraightUpBAG - includes one checked bag up to 25 kg, and StraightUpDELUXE - checked bag plus refreshments plus AVOD handhold (there are up to 69 handholds on each plane, I guess they all have AVOD and if you pay for the deluxe fare then it is activated).

There are some restrictions though: you need to be at least 150 cm tall, and your limbs have to be functional. There's also girth restrictions. But they do offer wheelchair clamps!

I hope they put this on some of the long haul planes so I can try it out! Makes for a real cheap way to visit New Zealand

"May as well tell your Google Plus friend."

Lots of Americans wouldn't qualify for the basic StraightUpFARE as they'd be too fat.

If you look at the seat map, you'll see that the StandupDeluxe is only for the front half of the plane therefore only those ones will have the interactive handhold.

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Aisle seats will lose their appeal as those pax will now be forced to view and possibly smell somone's posterior the whole flight.

I'd believe it if it were Ryan Air.

Yeah, that was the one thing that struck me as off. FR would have been more believable.
