I'm tired of all the doom and gloom in this world. Especially in my own personal world. And, here at A.net, we've had a spell of tragic losses, Carl, Baroque and Kiernan.

Let's have a "Happy Thread".
We need more happiness around here.

Tonight, for me, it was a nice enchilada dinner and 2 margaritas at my favorite Mexican restaurant. It was great.

What makes you happy?
Tell us about the simple things in your life that make you happy.

I agree that we need more happiness!

Walking around Wellington this afternoon on a perfect Autumn day: warm, sunny, no wind.
Wrapping up my first two international contract negotiations.
Spending time with the people I love.
A nice glass of Gibbston Valley 2010 Pinot Noir
Texas Rangers baseball.
Reading a good book.

Thanks for starting this thread and hope you all have a wonderful weekend

Any day I get to fly. I had the most stressful week I've had in a while. Today I got to fly from GFK to 4V4 for flight training. We dodged snow squalls (this is North Dakota afterall!), did stalls, and even had some landings (weren't great but hey I walked away!). The moment I pulled that control wheel back on takeoff it was just like the stress of the week just disappeared. It was just me and Sioux 39 (well my CFI too, but I did pretty well so he was quiet). It was my happy place.

Good idea!

Some things that make me happy:
Being with people I love.
Interesting and inspiring conversations.
Great music.
Good food.
Being outside when the weather is great (or at least interesting).
When things are better when I leave than they were when I arrived.

Not so much the right stuff (I would like to think I do) but more of a passion. Try a 172S with G1000. It's such a fun airplane to fly. I'm sure some would disagree with me but I just love that airplane.

Well I'm hoping my birthday brunch later today will lift my spirits a bit. Not expecting or planning anything too big today since I really do have a lot to get done this weekend homework wise. Well my brother's home this weekend too so that's certainly nice, so it should be a nice weekend. One thing that's always made me happy is when people can get along with each other

I had a very nice week:
-Won a prize through the radio. Nothing big, just a CD and a gift certificate.
-Got an 90 on a test and once I showed the professor that I simply misinterpreted the instructions and that I had done the same exercises before the test he bumped up the grade to a 95.
-Got a 100 on a project with the same professor and it was supposed to be a group project (I did it all by myself).
-Got elected as president of our Tau Beta Pi chapter.
-Finished my week on Thursday (we got Friday off) with a nice, relaxing yoga session.

Needless to say, these are just a couple of things that make me happy.

What makes me most happy these days is having a very interesting job working with nice people on interesting, state of the art kinds of problems that pays quite well. I know it's not ideal to have work be the first thing that pops into your head, but many people strive to get the kind of situation I find myself in, and I'm happy to be here.

And I did a bit of rampant on-line consumerism last week that has been paying off with delivery vans leaving cool (at least in my mind) stuff on my doorstep.

Simply, you push yourself then you are too exhausted to think about being unhappy. I can thank a colleague at work for that. And I might even get over my fear of the crazy traffic and commute to work on the bike. It's dangerous from where I live thanks to the busiest roads in my city, but why not.

What makes me happy?

1: My family. My daughter may drive me to the edge often, but it's the smiles, the hugs, and the sight of her sleeping peacefully that makes up for it. And to have an awesome wife doing awesome things (Deans list in school three semesters running) and finally feeling good about herself is awesome.
2: Trips to the range. Nothing like 9mm, .44 Mag and 12 ga. slugs to relieve stress. Repeat as needed.
3: My hobbies. The aforementioned guns, computers, and planes.

That's what keeps me going.

Cream colour ponies and crisp apple strudels, door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles, wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few.... no sorry I ripped that off. I don't like them much at all really.

The machoness here makes me happy.

You have never worked retail at Christmas. That song makes me want to do evil things to people.

Snide remarks to people who deserve it. When some lights are turned off it means we are closed but because we have customers we have to leave some on. So tonight:

Customer: Are you closed?

Me: No. I just like working in low light.

I'm happy at the moment as I'm off to Edinburgh on Friday for the weekend with the girls. On Monday I'm moving into my own place (only rented) but at least I won't have to share with anyone and I can do what I want and have people over whenever I want, yippeee!!! I've moved department at work too so I've started a new challenge which I thoroughly enjoy. Life is treating me not too bad at the moment (for now)

Oh yeah, I wuv puppies too, lol

Here it is:

I won. Victory was mine. In a ludicrous, unnecessarily extravagant, one-sided war, I prevailed. The four buildings you see here represent all that is left of my enemy. I have MIGs circling above them constantly (about eighteen in total I believe), and I have taken the gross liberty of placing speaker towers next to their remaining buildings so that they may be constantly deafened by my triumphant propaganda (I am guessing you already know how they feel....). So weakened were they by my overwhelming might that they could not even muster one single soldier to consider mounting any kind of defence, or even anti-propaganda operation.....

The 'map' in the bottom-left shows me as red, them as yellow.....that'll learn 'em....

Keep it real, C+C fans.......

No Rev, she's not named after the "Deepest" trench which I believe is in the Pacific Ocean.

Although she does have two lovely, DEEP areas: there's the "lower" one in a beautiful, well landscaped forest and another between two shapely, towering, picturesque mountains, which could be construed as "trenches"!

Besides, with a rack like that, who cares what her name is!

Yeah, you're probably right Doc, guess I'll just buy her a house and leave it at that!

How about you bang her like a Chinese gong and leave it at that? That would make you very happy (and hopefully her).

Whoa! Suddenly the "Happy Thread" becomes the "Tell me about your ex-wife thread"!
Same thing the way I see it. It's all happiness.

Got anything to add Cpd?

Oh...this could get fun.....

In no order of priority:

1) Remembering my father. When he died, my biggest fear was that it would come a time when I would not be able to remember him. He was a great man, wise, generous and compassionate. Add to that the fact he never had a role model, since he was born out of wedlock, his achievements were pretty impressive. It makes me really happy to know that every once in a while I remember the many conversations we had, and how he shaped the man I am today.

2) Waking up very early in the morning, knowing that the job I currently have makes me eager to arrive into the office, as opposed to those jobs when on Saturday you are all anguished because "Oh God, it´s gonna be Monday again in 48 hrs"

3) Being able to explain to people less experienced than me how things are done in my field of work. It´s humbling, keeps you in your toes and it´s a challenge.

4) The many friends I have in a.net (you know who you are)

5) A big, red, bright sunset.
