To kilt or not to kilt, my wife would like me to get one, has anyone here got one that isn't Scottish? My family are all Scottish on both sides, the only non Scottish ancestor I have is an Australian great grandmother (I know it's a terrible cross to bear). I have no problem wearing a kilt, I'm just wondering if it's appropriate to wear one if you're not Scottish?

I don't see why not, although you shouldn't wear it to a wedding. People all of a sudden claiming they are Scottish just for a wedding is nearly as annoying as Americans endlessly claiming they are Irish.

I bought one back in 2005 when I was in London, but it's still hanging in my closet. I might wear it for next Halloween...I don't think Puerto Ricans are ready to see a guy walking around in a kilt, though for a couple of $$$ I might wear it to college

Quoting KiwiRob (Reply 3): My Estonian builder was wearing one of those last summer.
There's a business here in Seattle I drive by frequently called "Men in Kilts" that do home repair and amongst other things...gutter cleaning. The last thing I want is a guy up a ladder cleaning my gutters in a utilikilt.

I can give you their number if you need any roof repairs done
Has anyone ever seen the hidden camera show where there's a hot guy in a kilt who needs to climb up on a ladder to mount a banner for a Scottish Cultural Festival or something like that? The set-up is that he stops female passers-by and asks them to hold the ladder while he climbs up it to do whatever it is he needs to do up there. The hidden camera is right at eye level on the other side of the ladder so you can see the faces of the women who are helping hold the ladder still.
Well, they don't tell you whether he's wearing anything under the kilt, but the expressions on the womens' faces tell enough. I've tried to find it on YouTube, but I can't seem to. It's one of the funniest hidden camera gags I've ever seen.

A small story from a works Christmas night out; my friend was wearing a kilt (and nothing underneath as proved when someone decided to use their mobile phone camera to find out ....)
It was snowing and I couldn't resist. We were between bars and I was following Ross up the street. Stooped down, scooped a handful of snow and straight up the kilt from behind onto his bits .... glad he saw the funny side, along with the 20 odd others with us!!!
Funny as hell and still reminisced about to this day!

Yeah I remember that one before. Yeah it should be somewhere in youtube.

I'm not sure you have seen a popular photo from Hong Kong. It's real! Maybe you can find it in google website.
When the scottish army lowered the flag (that was before China took over Hong Kong), suddenly the wind blew his kilt. Ouch! Then lots of people could see his clearly visible butt and then *flash* a photo. One of his colleagues in this photo was trying to stop laughing but failed.....

I have several. I used to make money wearing them... well, wearing them and playing a certain instrument (and no, it doesn't sound like a sick cat when I play). If you get one, get a good quality one. Expect to pay $450 or more, USD. The cheaper ones just don't cut it.
I don't wear it in public unless I'm playing for a wedding or a funeral. Although, there is somebody who wears one to work every day where I work in a Fortune 50 HQ.
The above post is my opinion. Don't like it? Don't read it.

I have to admit that a kilt is one of those things I intend to arrange one day.I had to hire one a few days ago for my mother's funeral and was quite jealous of my brother who has his own. At least he was in the correct tartan, I had to make do with a close match from the hire range.
