I have to say that ABBA is one of my guilty pleasure bands and yes I do have "ABBA Gold" in my music collection. I remember a number of years back seeing an interview with Elvis Costello who mentioned that the piano parts in his song "Oliver's Army" were inspired by the piano parts in "Dancing Queen". Heck, he's even performed "Knowing Me, Knowing You" in concert:
Their music is not some light sugary bubble gum pop even though some of the songs sound like it. When they were inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame a few years back, some folks were critical of their induction because they felt ABBA wasn't "rock". There are untold numbers of artists of all genres who can cite ABBA as one of their influences. I just found an REM bootleg in which they perform a version of "Does Your Mother Know?"

A friend of my was talking and Elvis did tons of covers, including the Grateful Dead's songs, like "Ramble on Rose".

Wow, impressed Im not the only fan...
I grew up with it as my parents loved it, I remember my mum playing Arrival to get me to sleep as a small kid... I then learnt to play all of the Gold & More Gold albums on keyboard at school and the rest by ear - I can still play the whole lot off by heart
I chose that clip as it is a lesser known song, but obviously they have a backing band here, but they are true musicians and very talented vocallists. And this:
And for all those who focused on Agnetha, check out Frida here - I think she is the hottest of the pair. She owned that stage, amazing voice - and those shorts... what I would pay to go back in time and get a front row seat!

Quoting BAViscount (Reply 20): ABBA have pretty much been the soundtrack to my life since I bought the single of Waterloo after they won Eurovision, they really can't be beaten.
Not the soundtrack to my life, but I've always loved Waterloo. ABBA were huge here in Australia (second only to Sweden I think) when I was a kid - I have the singles of Mama Mia, SOS and various others. I'm a music guy with rock leanigns, rather than a straight rock guy....
Re. Elvis C, search for "Such Unlikely Covers" - it really is a great bootleg of Knowing Me, Knowing You from the mid-1980s.
