The Worst Fans?

Title says it all. Who in your honest opinion has the worst fans? What team, city, organization, etc.

My nomination:
Detroit.
I hate the Wings.
I hate the Tigers.
I hate the Lions.

and whenever they come to Cincinnati or Phoenix and bring their whole obnoxious drunk families along, I always end up entangled somehow because I am a rather quiet fan (unless there's a bad call, then I audibly BOO at the refs.)

My dad got into a fight with a Red Wings fan at Jobing.com arena during one of this past year's losses....thankfully the management decided to ban the Red Wings fan because he pretty much started it and did all of the dirty work while my dad Gandhi'd it out. Go dad!

Anyway, my rant is over. Who do you think are the worst sports fans?

So you are basing your opinion on worst fans just because you don't like Detroit? And because of one incident? From my 4 years of living in Michigan, I went to many games in Detroit and my point of view would actually be different. Lions fans are pretty darn loyal, Tiger fans show up to watch good baseball, Piston fans are no different than any other, and Wings fans love their hockey. Just because you don't like Detroit doesn't mean they have the worst fans.

I am an LA Dodger fan and have been sense I was a little boy...but I know that Dodger fans can be some of the worst when it comes to sports. Now of course there is the incedent with the Giant fan but that is only 1 that got news. Many fights between the teams happen at Dodger Stadium an AT&T park. More fights happen at the stadiums than any hockey game. Dodger fans will cheer on their team and also boo their team when they feel it is deserved. Sometimes people call that passion, but I normally stick to the positive side.

On the brighter side, Portland Timber fans are probably the BEST fans in any sport in the United States. Thats for sure!

Worst fans? The drunk ones. When I would go to American's games (Tri-Cities WHL) or Winterhawks (Portland WHL) games, I HATED the drunk fans from ANY team!! There were people who would drive down from Calgary or Brandon to see their team and that's fine. They were sober the whole time. But, the drunken home fans would make everyone miserable. It sucked!

I'll second that! So most recently up here that would be... the various Canucks fans who rioted in Vancouver last year! Though the rambunctious Oilers fans from the Stanley Cup five or six years back were pretty bad too - not as much destruction overall, but the havoc was all in celebration of the Oilers WINs, not losses...

How about Napoli?
During their last European campaign 2011/2012 they stabbed 24 visiting supporters (from 5 different teams). they stoned 27 away coaches, bricked the hotels were opposing supporters went to play and rioted at two away games?
Banned from all away matches the other year in Italy as well. Decent reasons for hate Id say.

I don't even care for Italian football so I have no beef at all with them.

Or perhaps Fenerbahces fans that managed to create such riots their final game were abandoned. On the other hand that was against galatasaray who murdered a few Leeds fans a decade or so ago and was involved in serious trouble all over Europe back then. if they were attacked or the attackers in most cases is up for debate, id say both.

In Salonika Greece the two rivals Paok and Aris has a bit of history. Tends to be hmm lively for the hospitals when the two teams meet. the other year one set of fans torched a dog, reason it was black and white same colours as their hated rivals.

If you're a leftwinder, Lazio and Verona always displaying fascist symbols and Lazio famous for supporting for instance Arkan sending a RIP to him after his death on live TV all over the world. or maybe Dinamo Zagreb whose supports stood in formation as a swaztika the other year when they weren't allowed to bring nazi banners into a foreign stadium...

If you're a rightwinger, Livorno a club whose fans always display Communist symbols, cheering people like Lenin and Marx inside the stadium.

Personally I hate West ham United.
I cant drink with a hammers fan or work with him. If my sister dated one I wouldn't ever speak top her and if I met the lad Id put the first possible pint glass through his face. (cant explain to Americans, but our teams have 100 years of history and a handful of murders between us...)
Apparently the hate started when different part of striking labourers from different docks in London couldn't support each other. Thats before the first world war and in the riots that followed between the two groups the first deaths were recorded. Since then its been a warzone and to be honest, even the calmest of Millwall supporters care more about the violence than the results when we play West ham. Its nothing to do with football its a score to be settled and for Millwall its about showing whose the topdogs in London.
The rest of England loves West ham and (probably) despises Millwall. Although we like to see it as they respect us...  )

I totally agree with that, and would add, "anyone who starts fights, pisses on the shrubbery, tears things up, or just generally behaves like a neanderthal".

Actually, I think trying to determine which team, which city, which country, which "nationality" has the worst ANYTHING, is an exercise in futility; I really think it's all about basic human nature; which, BTW, is changing, and HAS BEEN changing very steadily for the worse, for the past 80m or so years now. It's the same argument as "who has the worst drivers", or "which country has the smartest / and / or / dumbest people; the answer is always the same.........."they ALL have"!

What causes "bad fans", "bad drivers", "bad anything"..........many things actually, more than anyone could ever name, but mostly it's ignorance; if you wonder why there is such an "increase" in ignorance over the past 80 (or so) years, that's rather obvious if you think about it for a short time. When I was a kid, I was lucky ! I had a great Mother, and a pretty good Father; (although we didn't always get along all the time) But at least I had two parents to teach me things, point me in the right direction, and take the razor strap to my ass when I did "dumb stuff". Today, my Dad would be thrown in jail ! for "child abuse" ! Well guess what............my Dad's "method" WORKED ! When I was growing up, people didn't use "bad words" in public, they didn't "have sex" in movies (for children to watch), and people actually got married before they had kids ! Of course that's all "old fashioned" now days; now days, if you want to "talk dirty", just get on TV, or make a movie; hey, if it "feels good", just "have at it", right ? But there's a price to pay; you pay the price every time you go out in public these days; you have to "put up with" all of these drunken, obnoxious, ignorant people "running amuck" ! Hey..........you think "bad fans" are bad ? I'll tell you what's even worse...........Chicago !
One of my all time, favorite big cities to go to, do all kinds of interesting stuff; but if you go there now, better have an "armored car" and about six armed guards ! Today, you risk being a gun shot victim just driving down the Interstate; (that happened a few days ago) BTW, any of you folks advocating no guns for civilians think there's a chance that the guy who randomly shot someone driving on the Interstate, is gonna turn HIS gun in ? Chicago is right now, having 50 to 100 people per week showing up at hospitals with gun shot wounds; never a week goes by with fewer than 20 or 30 murders. (All in a city where you are not allowed to have a gun! )

We read the Chicago "Trib" on-line every day; yesterday's "body count"............nine gunshot victims, 3 dead; Sat. night, a 40 yr old businessman, "accosted by a gang of "thugs" (ranging in age from 13 to 19 yrs old), beat and robbed victim right down town; victim's in hospital recovering from injuries. an hour later, an older couple were beaten and robbed a few blocks away; It's every day ! And guess what; you go to Chicago, you gotta leave your pistol at home; (not allowed to shoot thugs who rob and beat you in Chicago) We used to go to Chicago on the Amtrac.............I even liked to walk from Union Station to Michigan Ave. If I go to Chicago now, (and I definitely will), I won't take my "piece"; but if anyone tries to "mug" me...............I have a "plan"; and it won't be "easy".

This is getting too long; all I'm trying to point out is, "things" are not getting better, "things" are getting worse; and there are lots of reasons; (which I don't have time or the inclination to get into just now) But the same "things" are causing many of the "bad fans" the OP was referring to when he started this thread. The "bad" in human nature is winning out over the "good".

Hard to go against racist Eastern Europeans for the title, but I give them second place.

But I have some other honorable mentions first:

Canucks fans who set the city on fire. You're annoying. Your team blows it every year. Get some Tim Horton's and cry aboot it, but tipping over police cars is annoying and not very Canadian. That's something LA hockey fans would do...if there were LA hockey fans.

Cleveland Cavaliers fans who went crazy and burned jerseys after LeBron left. Face it, you'd leave Cleveland too if you had the chance and I'm sure none of them ever left one job for a better one. Grow up. And usually the owner is at least nominally more mature than the fans, but then there is Dan Gilbert.

Self important St. Louis Cardinals fans. Like the Cleveland fans above, there was no reason for Pujols to stay and he doesn't owe you anything. You're a small market so get over it. The only people who think Cards fans are the best fans in baseball are Cardinals fans. And there is no "Cardinal Nation", it's more like "Cardinal Trailer Park." Pull up your jorts, crack another cold one, and stop pretending that you're anything other than what you are.

Fans who care about stupid between innings or timeout activities. Kiss Cam (Ha Ha, they put two fat guys on it), mascot races (cuz you know, it's hard to run dressed as a giant thing that smells like piss), t-shirt slingshots (that damn shirt isn't your size anyway dumbass), and the like are the absolute ass end of the sports world. Stop encouraging them, and that includes you insignificant real estate agent/local dive bar owner/small time traffic attorney that sponsors this idiocy.

Ronnie "Woo-Woo" Wickers, the semi-retarded, semi-homeless, semi-toothless Cubs fan/mascot who walks around in a urine stained Cubs uniform and annoys people. At least real mascots don't usually make awful noises like that (look up Ronnie Woo Woo on a plane on YouTube). He represents all of the awful lovable loser traditions that need to go away.

Miami Marlins fans who got up in arms about Ozzie Guillen's Castro comment. If you protest each time Ozzie says something dumb or off color you will probably end up doing nothing but protesting before long. And then it's just a matter of time before you take off your clothes and eat a guy's face like a chimp. Don't go there, just jump off that train before it gets going too fast.

Baseball fans who fight like idiots for a foul ball, especially those that basically tackle little kids. For that matter, if you catch a ball, give it to a kid anyway since it's just a baseball. Also, morons who bring their glove to the game. There's no need for it if you're over the age of 9.

Anyone who actually puts stock in anything Mike Francesa, Colin Cowherd, Tim McCarver or Skip Bayless says. If you listen to any of those idiots, chances are you're an idiot too. Stop talking to people and go to rehab or something.

And now, my grand prize for worst fans in all of sports goes to...

Penn State fans who have no problem with their team being used as a front for child molestation or with administrators and coaches turning a blind eye to it. They've never heard of rape and a man apparently and some of them actually believe JoePa was killed by the scandal and hold that against the people who were dumb enough to break up a molestation ring. And how about that jury selection? As one journalist said, it's less like a real jury and more like a Penn State tailgate party.

I'm not too worried though. Ol' Jerry made the mistake of taking one his boys on the road with him for a little horsing around apparently, so when the Penn State booster club acquits him he'll likely have be tried by the Feds too. And they have real adults for this kind of thing.

That is changing, it happened in Toronto the year before at the G20 and there has been protest related unrest in Montreal for several weeks although I don't think that is that violent (I haven't been watching Canadian news on it because of my location).

The 2010 violence in Toronto was politically motivated but I don't know if that is worse because it was orchestrated and in Vancouver it was just a lot of idiots.

Pittsburgh fans. No one here remembers the Steelers existed in the 80's yet greatest team of all time in the history of sport internationally and intergalactically. As far as everyone here is concerned the Pirates do not exist (Except when they want to take the family out for firework night and a few hot dogs at PNC.) Again, the Penguins didn't exist from the late 90's till Mario saved the franchise. Now oh SID THE KID! They forget that the team almost became the KANSAS CITY Penguins. Still, oh we LOVE our Steelers 6.....6.....6.....oh wait. We have 6!

Sorry about that small rant. Just my 2cents. If you love your cities sports franchises you cannot pick and choose when you like them. That seems to be the theme in the "City of Champions." So obnoxious....

The worst fans are the fans of the Egyptian team AlMasry from port Said in the north of Egypt. After a soccer match on there own field which they won they attacked the fans of the opposite team with knives and other arms, 73 death over 200 injured. Wonder what would have happened if they lost.

If you knew anything about Philly, we never really got behind McNabb in large numbers. Sorry, but laughing and having a great time on the sidelines while the team is down by three touchdowns does not endear you to the fans. He was barely tolerated because when he wasn't being a prima donna, he played okay. But seriously...if he had a hangnail, he wouldn't play.

If you talk to any of the national broadcasters (not the ones on each team's payroll), they will tell you that Philadelphia fans - while rowdy and occasionally rude and violent - are among the most knowledgeable fans in sports. Even Joe Buck - who I hate almost as much as I hate Airbus - has said that while we have a bad rap, we know what we are talking about when it comes to our teams.

Based on my experiences....

Dodgers Fans. Why? Well I think the best example is what happened to that Giants fan. I was at that game and I was wearing my Giants' hat and shirt and let me tell you, it was a HORRIBLE experience. I always wanted to see a game at Dodgers Stadium and now that I have, I will never go back. They spit at, throw sh*t at, threaten with violence, and make sure opposing fans have the worst experience...all while they spend 4 innings trying to get the wave going and hitting beach balls. Stupid asses...

Padres Fans. Why? Because you can't find them. Anywhere. However, if the Padres somehow pull off a miracle second half and have playoff chances, you'll see fans everywhere...flags and banners attached to cars, etc. They will be in your face saying "number one!! number one!!". That actually happened to me in May of 2010. I was at a Giants vs Padres game in San Diego. The giants lost and the Padres were in first place. Everywhere I turned I had Padres fans reminding me who was in first place. That was May. Yeah, who came out on top taking the World Series in fall of that season? That's right, the Giants. Stupid asses... Maybe if the fans had shown up and supported the Padres as they literally took it to the last game of the season with the Giants, their team would have performed better. That last series at home in SD was DEAD. Then they went to SF and the Padres were shown what real support is.

Chargers Fans. Why? They are cry-babies! It's way too much fun to mess with them. They get so butt hurt. Can't take what they dish. Hypocrites... They also have the best Super Bowl record of any other fans out there. Yes, they become fans of the winning team every year. They want to know what it's like to win a championship so bad, they will convince themselves that winning team has always been their next favorite. When the Saints won, everyone here became Saints fans because of "their boy" Drew Brees! Give me a break... Oh and this past season, when the 49ers were in the NFC Championship game, all these Chargers fans were sporting SF colors. I heard so many Chargers fans rave about how much they've always loved the 49ers. How they are their second favorites. Oh, really? So they must have enjoyed the outcome of the 1995 Super Bowl then, eh? Stupid asses...

Raiders Fans. Growing up in the bay area, I had to hear their nonsense every year. No matter how bad the team looked in any given year, "this year" was always going to be "THE year". And it got worse when I moved to San Diego because here I have to put up with the Chargers/Raiders rivalry. Both sides are equally loony!

Red Sox Fans. NOT the kind from Boston. Everyone else who decided in the last 8 years that they have always been Red Sox fans. Oh you're a Red Sox fan?? How original...

Yankees Fans. Not the New York kind, Everyone else...because they are EVERYWHERE. Oh you're a Yankees fan?? How original...

Ok, that's enough ranting.

Why everyone be hatin on the 'Nucks?? If the refs would do their job, we would have won more Cups. I saw the stick go between the legs of Malhotra just before the series "win" this year. Everyone at Rogers Arena saw it. The commentators saw it. The refs, however, did not. Big surprise. Just like the stick going in the face of Linden in 1994.

Quoting Silver1SWA (Reply 19):
Dodgers Fans. Why? Well I think the best example is what happened to that Giants fan. I was at that game and I was wearing my Giants' hat and shirt and let me tell you, it was a HORRIBLE experience. I always wanted to see a game at Dodgers Stadium and now that I have, I will never go back. They spit at, throw sh*t at, threaten with violence, and make sure opposing fans have the worst experience...all while they spend 4 innings trying to get the wave going and hitting beach balls. Stupid asses...

Wow! As a Dodger fan (and yes I voted them as being some of the worst), I think that statement is pretty inaccurate as an across the board action. Dodger fans and Giant fans just can't get a long. I have been to countless Dodger games in LA and just about every series in SF against the Dodgers the past 10 years. If you are in LA playing against SF, you are correct, those things will happen at every game. If you are in SF playing against LA, the Giant fans will do the same exact thing to you. Dodger fans really don't have attitudes like you mentioned with other teams outside of the Giants. What happened last year is inexcusable and I am in no way backing up what they did. But Giant fans and Dodger fans just will never get along...EVER.

That's just it: Hawks fans can handle it. They are drunk 24/7 and know where the line is. Those fans who come in from Seattle, Spokane, Medicine Hat, etc. are not used to it. They are the annoying ones.

3rd place is awarded to: Oakland Raiders fans. You know the ones that have a giant Raiders logo covering the entire rear window of their Ford F150 with spinners on the wheels. They live and die for their pathetic team and *know* that every year will be the year they turn things around and make the Super Bowl. My best friend is a Raiders fan and I like the guy 6 days a week but on the 7th he turns into the biggest wanker on the face of the earth and I'd love to punch him in the face as hard as I can.

New York Spankees fans are a close second tied with Lakers fans. It seems as though the same idiots with the Raiders logos plastered all over their bumpers and windows are the same ones with the Lakers flags flying from their windows.

But the NUMBER ONE WORST FANS IN THE WORLD ARE TIM TEBOW FANS!!!

Seriously.

Tim Tebow fans are so utterly pathetic. We had to deal with them and their travelling circus for the past two years and it has been a relief to see them transfer that fiasco to NYC. Good riddance. TT fans are a huge distraction to both the other fans and to the team itself. TT fans know that TT was sent to the earth to preach Jesus and football and there is no way that TT will lose with God on his side. (And I'm a religous person but seriously, TT fans need to crank it down an notch or ten.)
