There were delays in uploading posts towards the end of the Q2 thread, so hopefully a new one will solve the problem. Going by the quaity of pics in the last one, I have no doubt the standards will be just as high in this one!
A bumblebee, from the looks of it. 5cm would be monstrous, but they can normally reach about half that, which is already quite large for such an insect.
This is the only photo I've got where a comparison can made - unfortunately, the big one is out of focus. Not sure how far apart the flowers were but that bee was a lot bigger than anything other insect that I saw

Normally I wouldn't dare post a photo taken by a cameraphone in one of these threads, but I was quite pleased with the way this one turned out (still nothing compared to the photos above):

It was one of those unfortunate situations when I had forgotten to bring my camera with me. However the view was too good to not be photographed, so the cameraphone had to do. I took 18 frames and the one uploaded was the best - unfortunately it seems to have a slightly pink/red tint.
