If you wanted anyone to arrest you, you wanted it to be Sheriff Andy Griffith. You get a stern talking to, maybe spend the night in the jail if that's what was called for and then went on your way after resolving to reform your bad ways.
...and they lived happily ever after...
A good life, well lived. Rest in peace Mr. Griffith.

Jim Nabors - Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith Show for 27 episodes from 62 to 64 - is still with us.
The Andy Griffith Show came from a show of "Make Room for Daddy" where Danny Thomas, the star, was arrested in a small North Carolina town by Griffith as Sheriff Andy Taylor.
Griffith was already a well established star - as a comedian, as a movie star, as a singer - with a Broadway hit - when the single episode show was created. Thomas, Griffith and their producers used the show as a pilot for the full Andy Griffith Show.
Recently I've heard some of his recorded comedy routines on Sirius radio's comedy channel. He was hilarious.

Quoting Max Q (Reply 16): For certain , how ? did you know him personally or are you basing your opinion of his character on that which he portrayed as an actor ?
A friend of mine met him one time and extended his hand to shake his and AG gave him 'if looks could kill' look. We later found out from someone who actually worked with him that he despised his fans and was such a prima dona on the set.
In defference to the deceased I won't discuss his politics.
