Yes, because shrapnel-producing antipersonnel explosive devices make fantastic toys.

Looks like some dudes are working really hard on that Darwin Award.

Between stuff like this and their driving, how are there any Russians left alive? Seems like every time I get on the internet there's another video of a Russian acting like a dumbass.

Is there a Russian word for redneck? If there isn't, I think there needs to be.

The second one wasn't too bad, the explosion was actually away from them.

The first one had me in fits of giggles because of how stupid they were.

I thought the time delay of the grenade would be greater. Is it normal for it to be this short?

I would have said the same for the Brits and the Yanks. The internet shows no prejudice when it comes to idiots demonstrating their stupidity.

Actually that's not normal at all. Either it was defective, or they somehow homebuilt it. I have thrown grenades while in the Army, and you had several seconds of time to *duck and wait*. Here's an example:

I have a friend, happily for both he is still a friend, was weapons instructing when the trainee threw the pin and dropped the grenade. Luckily my friend saw what happened and dragged himself and the trainee out of danger before the greanade went off!

It depends. Normal is something between 4-5 seconds after the spoon flies off (as one guy I know, who was a basic instructor NCO in the Bundeswehr told me "After 4-5 seconds you´ll see the first cracks appearing in the grenade body.").
There existed a 7 second delay fuze for British WW1 and WW2 Mills bombs which were to be used as rifle grenades, but troops complained that, if used as normal handgrenades, the delay allowed the enemy to pick the grenade up and throw it back. In any case, the use of such a grenade as a rifle grenade went out of fashion soon (because the increased recoil would damage the rifle used, so normally each section had a special "grenade rifle", an old rifle with the stock re-inforced with wire and the launching cup permanently attched to the muzzle and you needed special ballistite blank cartridges to fire it, so it go replaced by the more versatile 2" mortar), so the 7 second delay grenades got withdrawn.

The Germans also had two different fuzes for their WW2 egg grenade. On the eastern front, when they had to withdraw from a position they sometimes left grenades lying around with the delay element in the fuze removed, which would then act as a boooby trap on some unsuspecting Russian soldier, who would pick up the grenade to throw it after the retreating German soldiers. When he pulled the ignitor plug, it would explode instantly.

BTW, I´ve heard now of a similar trap the Taliban did in Afghanistan. They would manufacture AK-47 magazines with a small explosive carge in the bottom. The top would contain 5-6 cartridges. When the unsuspecting NATO soldier would get into an abandoned Taliban position, he would find some magazines left. He would pick them up to strip the rounds out of them to secure them. Next, a spring trigger mechanism inside the magazine would trigger the explosive charge, ripping off the soldier´s hands or worse. Apparently the Taliban set up a mass production for such booby traps.

Idiots are a large and powerful tribe with immense influence on the affairs of mankind in general. They are a very inclusive group, not discriminating based on gender, color, creed, national origin, age, or sexual orientation. Anyone can join the club!

My favorite part is the reaction of the dude when he realizes that his Zodiac has been punctured. Given the way they are dressed, it doesn't look like a warm day to be going in the drink.

We have the entire Deep South and Appalachia that is full of idiots, but the rest of the country mostly balances it out. So where are the Russian idiots from, and what part of Russia produces non-idiots? I haven't exactly been keeping score, but it seems like the dumb ones are from all over. Of course there are moments of Russian redneck greatness too, like the guy driving a Kirovec out of a lake.

No, but now I have. It turns out this was for the film 'The Expendables 2'. One of the guys in the video died.

Yeah, sure, no idiots elsewhere...   gotta hand it to those coastal U.S.-ers, they are as ignorant about their own country as they claim others are about foreign countries.

Like the U.S., probably all over, but a Russian friend of mine somehow constantly felt the need to apologize for a Russian colleague of ours who was from the Caucasus region, saying things like "you know, that is how they are down there".

The South has a much higher concentration. And every time I turn around there's some new study pointing out that those people are comparatively poor and stupid. By the way, when was the last time you saw a video of some Japanese person doing something like this? Southerners and Russians seem to have the market pretty well controlled.

You know something is wrong when the GPWS sounds during taxi....

I don't know. I read about the accident during filming and I see those comments, but are you sure this is a video of the same event?

Just passed by the Military Channel the other night and the movie PT 109 was on. In the movie one of the deck hands was fishing with a hand grenade.

Which brings up the old story about a couple of fellows using dynamite for fishing. The game warden pulls up beside their boat and starts to lecture them and write them a ticket when one of the fishermen lights a stick of dynamite and hands it to the game warden with the fuse burning.
Then ask the game warden if he was going to be writing or fishing.

Okie
