Jaguar confirmed yesterday that the 2014 F-Type sportscar will debut at the Paris motor show next month.

Jaguar F-type convertible

The F-Type is Jaguar's new two-seat hardtop (and soon, convertible) sports car. F-Type buyers will get a choice of two engines--a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 or a normally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 - while Jaguar promised that a 450 horsepower supercharged V8 will be offered later. Jaguar says there will be two versions of the V6, with output ratings of 335 and 275 hp. The V-6 models will probably offer the most balanced road handling of all F-Types.

The F-Type will have a top speed in excess of 175 mph, according to Jaguar. The car should accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. It will compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4, among others. It certainly looks nice. Sales of the sexy new F-Type will begin next summer in Europe, with other international markets (including dealerships in the USA) to follow shortly thereafter. Sticker price is rumored to be about $70,000 to $80,000USD for the top-of-the-line F-Type models.

JLR needs a few more hits. The only thing they have going for them right now are Evoques. Jag sales slipped last month and the parent company missed targets. Next 2 quarters may be crucial indicators for Tata.

But it's the convertible that's being launched first followed by the hardtop.

New Ranger Rover in Autumn, new Range Rover Sport in Spring, both should be popular.

Is this just in the US market or world wide, because I see loads of new XJ's all over the place, far more than I ever see of the previous model.

I was reading worldwide but sales don't look that bad. Seems to be a lot of forward concern about the European market dive and a slowing China.

The new Jaguar lineup is a huge improvement over the older ones in my opinion. They all look pretty good, especially the XF and XK. I can't say I'm a fan of the back end of the XJ but it's still classy looking, just not my taste. I saw a new XF on the road the other day and boy was it sharp. They aren't as common as the BMWs, Mercs, and Audis. I see that as a plus as well.

The F-type convertible will be the first model produced by Jaguar, then they will produce a hard top coupe variant. My mistake in the OP.

I'm sorry but your simply wrong, JLR is going from strength to strength currently, with all models selling as fast as they can produce then   and at a profit last financial year JLR made £1.6Bn profit which is not to be sniffed at, I have a number of friends who are employees at JLR up to and including director level and not one has suggested that sales have been slowing in fact the opposite is the case they're running out of production capacity and are trying to change employment terms with some of there factories now to make operations run more of the time

There is a distinction between sales and profit. One possible issue with the impressive sales percentage gains is that they were selling so few, any gain is huge. But this is what the analysts are saying....

Tata profit misses estimates on slowing JLR sales

Well I'm not going to be so vulgar as to name people who are family and friends that are on the board of directors at JLR I will post this link

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18250315

JLR Profits
2011-12 £1.5bn
2010-11 £1.12bn
2009-10 £50mn (Tata buy JLR)

So when for sold JLR in 2009-10 it made less that 50million in profit which was pathetic, and then the two years since it's made £2.62bn pounds, yeah they're doing really bad

Notice in your 3 month old article that they repeatedly mention only one vehicle. the Evoque. It indicates just what I said, they need more hits and if your board friends try to gloss over that, they are misleading you. What part of "slowing sales" don't they understand?

Jaguar sales in the UK last month were down 7.7% from a year ago. While your board of director friends are proudly pointing to past profits, it does not disguise that Europe is falling into recession, China is slowing and the US is stagnant. Recent history highlights how quickly JLR's (and the luxury car market) fortunes change with the economy. 2009 was no fluke. Margins were down 30% last quarter, Jaguar sales in the US are down in every model except the XF. The same for every model of Land Rover except a 3.6% bump in the Sport, which outsells the Evoque.

The trend right now is down, like it or not, and it has already affected Tata's bottom line. They will not be so proud long on the back of only one model.

mham there will be 2 new Range Rovers launched in the next 6-9 months, both will be hugely popular in markets like China, Russia and the US, there is also the XF estate, bound to be a hit, within the next 18 months there will be the F-type hardtop, a Defender (replacement or complementary product, who knows) a new Freelander and possibly the next Discovery, a little bit further into the future (24 months) will be the crucial 3 series/A4/C class competitor and the XK replacement. I think things are looking pretty good for JLR.

I think it looks good. The rear styling is a little more distinctive. Besides, what should they have done? Make the headlights a little more rounded, like the original E-Type, and it becomes a Chinese knock-off of the 911.

It's their newest model, so you'd expect it's the one generating sales at the moment. The only thing I'd question about JLR is why they feel Jaguar needs their own SUV, but if they already have most of the components it's low risk anyway.

Maybe it has been, this was like a month ago at least. I kind of hope it has, I don't think that Jaguar styling would translate well to an SUV and I don't see what about it would be better than a Land Rover.

We will see how "hugely" popular another large suv will be here. I have my doubts, more so given Land Rovers abysmal reliability record.. Of course, it's all relative as their big hit is still being outsold by the Sport.

Actually the Ford looks like it considering that the Range Rover has had its shape for over four decades now. If they'd just fix those tail lights it would be fine.

Where is the Sport outselling the Evoque? In the year to July JLR sold 88,000 Evoques and have moved the plant to 24 hour operation to meet demand, the only figure I can find for the Sport lists approx 30,000 units in 2011.
