Sad news. Just after Ian Brady seemed to reveal the location of Keith's body - the only of the 5 murdered youngsters killed in 1963 - 65 to remain undiscovered - Keith Bennett's mother, Winnie Johnson, passed away. She repeatedly campaigned to find his remains and stated often that she wanted to find him before she died; the fact that this happened just as the trail was heating up again is a cruel twist of fate.
That said, hopefully now that she is gone, we can stop going back to this horrible case every few years. Without his mother there's no real reason to search for his body any more, and maybe this whole affair can be finally relegated firmly to the history books... Bringing up the murders in a fresh search and investigation every few years just reopens old wounds.

Such a sad story. I'm inclined to believe Ian Brady was unwilling rather than unable to reveal the burial place of Keith Bennet as, if it were the latter, surely he would have done everything he could to give this woman closure? Ignoring her appeals over the years must have been truly heartbreaking for her, prolonging her agony for decades.
I don't have any children, but losing a child must be the most devastating thing to happen to a parent. To have that child murdered compounds the devastation, and topping that with contempt by the murderer must muliply it even further.

It is a heartbraking story. I was gutted to hear she passed away yesterday. She was such a courageous woman.

The guy seemed to thrive on prolonging her agony. He is an old man now, but is still total filth.

I read that every weekend she would go to the moors and just dig. There was a picture on the daily mail website of her digging in the rain. That is heartbreaking to see that sight of a mother so desperate to find her child.
People go on about human rights but this woman has been tortured for nearly 50 years.
All perfectly timed by that scum. He knew that she was suffering from cancer with not long to live. Therefore, he thought he would get some kind of perverted enjoyment by "dropping" this hint knowing that it would take time for anyone to prove its veracity and more than likely take until she was dead to reach some conclusion. I'm just glad that she never learnt of this latest "development".
