A group of us (me and 3 friends) are going to Cabo San Lucas in 2 weeks. Anybody been and could share some information, what to do, not do, what to see? any information is welcomed.

We plan on renting some dune buggies for an afternoon (if they would only respond to my email), we also plan to see the Arc and mabe some snokeling. We are staying 5 days, should be fun.

We went two years ago and didn't find that much to do. I felt it was like San Diego without all the hustle and bustle. Very nice, very relaxing. It seemed a world away from the problems of the drug cartels in the rest of Mexico. Go to Senor Frogs just because.

Thanks for the reply. Senor Frogs seems to be a go to place no matter where in Mexico one travels. I went to one in Cozumel and barely made it bake to our cruise ship, in fact, i'm certain a couple that was at our dining table on the cruise ship missed the boat ! The relaxing part of it sounds good but with 4 guys travelling together i'm sure there will be little of that. I guess Cabo Wabo is a must down there. I have to admit that the flights getting there and back are exciting for me. 5 legs in total !

Hey there,

I went to Cabo for 5 days in July and going back for 4 more in November. We LOVE it there. Partly because it's a quick 2 hour flight for us here in DFW.

Yes, go down to the marina area nightly. That's where many of the restaurants and bars are. Like you mentioned, Cabo Wabo, Senor Frogs, Happy Endings  , etc.

Cabo is great because it is a place where you can just relax. We stayed at the Fiesta American about 7 miles from town and it was amazing. I'm a golfer, so I play golf while I'm there as well.

Snorkeling..ehhh.. I guess depends where you go. We went to one spot and it wasn't very great, but still had a fun time.

I would recommend eating dinner at The Office down a couple blocks from the marina.

Cabo is a great place to relax at the pool and beach during the day (maybe a round of golf) and then go out to dinner and for some drinks in the evening. There is also the dune buggies you mentioned. I'd like to try that myself.

Also, consider renting a car and driving around. There are a couple towns within an hour or so that may be neat to go to and have been recommended to us. We are going to do that next time we go.

if you have anymore questions, let me know!

Actually we are staying in San Jose Del Cabo but we will do day trips to Cabo San Lucas. The marina is in Cabo San Lucas, correct? I'd love to play golf down there but 2 of the guys we are going with don't like it so we agreed no golf. Then again i may just disappear for an afternoon, the courses look great. Thanks for the comments and recommendations.

Yes, the marina I'm referring to is in Cabo San Lucas...or about 25 minutes from where you will be. We briefly drove thru San Jose and many people said there were little shops and restaurants...we just didn't see them

I would definitely recommend playing golf. There are a handful of courses between the two cities. I played Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course and yes it is pricey, but it was by far the best course and the most picturesque I've ever seen. I will be playing it again when I go back.

Since you are staying "so far away", I'd recommend renting a car so you can go to the marina in Cabo every night or almost every night. Taxi will end up being just as expensive if you use it to go that far every day.

For snorkeling you need to go to Cabo Pulmo, not much there to see on land but for snorkeling it is worth it....google it.

I checked out the Ocean course and it looks great, but you are right it is pricey. I'll have to see when i'm down there if i can fit in a round. Googled Cabo Pulmo and it also looks great. i've emailed this to the other guys as it's something i'd really like to do. Renting a car may be the way to go as well. Thanks for the info guys!

There are several less expensive golf courses that look very nice also. Cabo del Sol is "cream of the crop" and listed as the #1 course in Mexico. If you want to save a few bucks....you can 1. pick a different course or 2. go on one those "time share" tours and request a free round of golf as compensation. That's what I did and I got to play Cabo del Sol for free. The downside is that is will cost you a couple hours of time, but may be worth it to you

The Fiesta American resort will send you on one of the tours where you can play Cabo del Sol for free -- it is truly an amazing course and recommend it as a "once in a lifetime" experience if you enjoy golf.

Make sure to read the fine print on that car rental agreement....$40 for 4 days is way too low to be real or have no strings attached...where did you get this price from? expedia...etc? car rental website?

Check if there is a mileage limitation on that price. It might be $40 as long as you don´t exceed a total amount of miles (which most of the time is ridiculously low) Once you exceed that limit, each additional mile comes with a price and it can be pretty expensive. They had me once with that trick.

I also recommend the golf. Cabo del Sol is the Pebble Beach of Latin America. It is amazing.

Snorkeling and Diving there is not great. If you are going to dive, you need to go do the really deep open water dives (no for beginners) there so you can see the large stuff like the whale sharks (if in season),

The bars are good and a few nice restaurants. Last time we were in Cabo Wabo it was totally dead.

Deep sea fishing is a must. Cabo is the number one place in the world to catch a marlin. We hooked 3 on our boat, but even saw about 20 swimming near the surface.

$40 for a car for 4 days seems crazy. Also keep in mind that if I recall there is very little parking in Cabo, but that could have changed by now. But do keep in mind that taxis are a fortune.

unlimited mileage. We'll find out soon enough if this is too good to be true.

which is why we explored the rental car option. Thanks for your comments, the deep sea fishing sounds good. I'n not going to to do the scuba, i've done it once but only in 30' waters which was good enough for me.

- Go to Medano Beach in Cabo; eat and drink at The Office while you're there (it's on the beach)

- Go to El Squid Roe; owned by Grupo Anderson's (same as Senor Frogs) it's in a better location and has better crowds

- Directly in front of the main entrance to Cabo Wabo is a small bar that makes rainbow shots. They're a must-see/drink.

- After the bars start to close, look for the hot dog vendors; get a bacon-wrapped hot dog. It's a must-eat in Mexico.

The Office has a cool atmosphere where you can kick it for a couple hours and eat/have a few drinks. I'll be going back to The Office when we go in November.

There were a couple of parking locations down by the Marina. Yes, they charge you, but it will still end up cheaper than taking a taxi everywhere.

The Taxi service is very nice though, you get a huge van, even if it's just two people and the price is set.

I'm all for taking the taxi now and then, but it will get expensive if you do it every day or multiple times a day from as far out as you are staying.

i've recently learned the hotel we are staying at has a shuttle service for a good price. We'll be using that when we do the bar thing and using the car for other trips.

i've also been looking around at the restaurants and i have made note of a few. i like a good meal when on vacation.

I would also recommend renting jet skies down by the marina and riding those around. We are doing that next month as well. Just one more activity to add to the list. You can get pretty close to the Arch riding on those.

We made it back in one piece.

We did a lot of stuff. I'll start with the car rental. the car was $47/wk but add $25/day for insurance even though i was told my credit card company covered it and they also took a $3000 deposit on the car. It was a beaten down car but did the trick. We did a buggy ride Extreme Adventures which was great. We were blowing past all the other machines out there like atv's and the open cars. Ours were Polaris machines and we got them up to 85 km/h. We also did the snorkeling which was just ok, but the boat ride was a blast, sort of like a zodiac boat doing hard turns and riding the crest of the waves. The bar scene was great. El Squid Roe was the best, also a place down the street i think it was called Mandela? We did Mango Beach beside the Office and we were not allowed in Cabo Wabo because we didn't have any women with us. We also went to a bar off the "strip" were i think only locals go, it was a blast with a live band and the people there were great!. Priced out a "massage" for $80 but did'n go through with it. Overall the area was fantastic, the beaches were great, the people were friendly. It was so good that a buddy is considering making a purchase down there. My only negative point is seeing the little kids begging for money at 2 am, i'm never going to get used to seeing that.

DO NOT give money to people on the street, it does more harm than good...
