I started watching the original series from the beginning . I love the original Airport scenes. I love seeing the original Aloha 'Funbird' and Hawaiian shortie DC-9's and all the great UA DC-8's. But what really caught my interest is,what had to be the 1970 season,Mc Garret met 'the govenor' at the gate @ HNL . Low and behold they met a 'DC guy' onboard a new UA 747-100 in the stars and bars colors. It was really cool to see,in color, what the first class section looked like when they were new.

Anyways,I always love seeing the classic planes from the old TV shows and movies.

Speaking of Hawaii in that era. When the Brady Bunch go to Hawaii, it shows them flying in on a United Stars and Bars D8S and leaving on a 747. It was filmed in 1972.

Yep. Bullet is one of the best airplane scenes ever.

Here's the most spectacular scene in my opinion. Nothing computer generated about the stopping scene in the this one:

Someone once described that movie as a two-hour commercial for the 707.

I'll take two, thank you

Airport has been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid...

No computers, but a couple of big wind machines to whip up the snow for dramatic effect.

LOVE old airplane movies too! The whole Airport series is just awesome!

However... "Airplane" has got to be one of the best ever! Showing a beautiful (TWA-ish) 707 and completely using prop-engine sounds the whole time! LOVE IT! Then landing with the gear up...and taking off "gear up" with "Auto" flying it!!!

You really need to watch the original "Zero Hour!"

They added a couple of scenes in Airplane, but other than that the script is literally the same. Not even joking.

Agreed...Interior scenes shot on an actual PAA 707, not on a mockup. When they open the cabin door from inside, you can see the door stops mounted inside the doorway (that is the dead giveaway for a real airplane vs. a mockup).

The aerial shots in the movie "Skyjacked" are pretty good too.

This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

Wow! Thanks for sharing...if that captain smoking the pipe during the takeoff roll isn't "cool", then I don't really know what is!

One of the cheesiest movies, "Gidget Goes Hawaiian," which was from like 1960. They flew to the Aloha state on board a United Airlines Mainliner early DC-8 complete with curtains, Palomar seats with those seatback reading lights. And the shots of the plane flying were also cool. They actually got the details right whereas many movies including Zero Hour back in the day were chincy and used DC-6/7 cabin and exterior shots though the plane was supposed to be a jet!

I'm Zippyjet & I approve of this message!

Flying into HNL back in 2000 it was still like the 1970's. Classic 747's, DC-10's, L1011's, classic 737's and DC-9's everywhere. Gave the place character.
