We've been visiting friends in Chicago area since Wednesday, so I didn't hear about Larry Hagman's passing until this morning; very sad news, but not unexpected. He's had other close brushes with death prior to now, but I guess this is the one he couldn't walk away from.
Quoting rfields5421 (Reply 9): One of my favorite Larry Hagman stories was what a little old lady supposedly asked him what did his mother think of him playing such a sneaky liar as J.R. Ewing.
Hagman replied - his mother thought about the same of his role, as he did when she played Peter Pan.
LOL! I like that ! That remark is exactly the kind of thing I would expect to hear from a person like Larry Hagman !
I wonder how many on the forum still remember his mother, the late, GREAT Mary Martin from her iconic role in the musical, "South Pacific"?
Quoting Asturias (Reply 8): Rest in peace, Larry Hagman - you were an icon and a great actor.
My thoughts exactly; thank you Asturias.

I'm from the era when the original DALLAS was on, and was actually watching the new version as well due to him, Linday Gray and Patrick Duffy taking part in it.
He recorded something like 15 episodes of the second season. I hope the writers let him move on in a nice way, even though it's just film.
An icon he is.

As a kid Dallas was on every day here so I remember the (French) theme very well, however I never watched it. Older generations did, and the death of JR was big news for two days in a row, even being used to mock the current ordeal the conservative party is going through (an election between two men to find a leader, 50/50 results with frauds, lots of fun).
