Hi All!

We started discussing this in a different thread but it has kind of become an event so we're continuing here now. Basically some of us want to catch the rare Dornier 328 of which only a handful are flying today, and we booked ourself onto SkyWorks on a 2-segment flight from Hamburg to Zagreb via Berne. The fare is excellent, 79 EUR all in for 2 flights. Apparently the airline really rocks and they have an awesome livery:

We're planning to do some fun activities in Hamburg before the flight and in Zagreb afterwards. Both cities are cheap and easy to get into and out of from anywhere in Europe.

You're all welcome to come along! We'll have plenty of fun, do great spotting and have some excellent food and beer. It will be an unforgettable trip!

Here are the details:

Friday, Jan 18: meet in Hamburg in the afternoon or evening. Have food and beer together, maybe after visiting the brand new model airport at Miniatur Wunderland?

Saturday, Jan 19: Sky Work Airlines HAM-BRN-ZAG, 9:15-10:55 + 12:15-13:50, bookable at only 79 EUR right now!
Afternoon and evening in Zagreb, spotting maybe then spend some time in this awesome city.

Sunday, Jan 20: Fly back home, for example through Stuttgart, Germanwings is 39.99 EUR right now.

Anybody interested?

A word of warning, if Skyworks get too much demand for a flight they will sub in one of their Q400s.

Thanks, good to know. This is part of the reason why we're doing 2 segments, to increase our chances. But as you point out, we shouldn't go with too many participants here. But I'm expecting maybe 3-4 of us so it should be ok.

You could also take a train to Ljubljana and fly home from there, adding Adria Airways to your collections. LJU-FRA on the 20th is about €113 at the moment, as per amadeus.net.

spotting maybe

The observation deck at ZAG may still be open at that time, depending on the weather of course  . But there's not really much to see spotting-wise... just an endless stream of A320s and Q400s. You may get lucky though and catch a MiG-21 test flight, but that's far from certain...

I am mulling joining on this trip, also as both Hamburg and Zagreb are amongst the most important cities I haven't visited yet. Probably fly back on Skywork on monday to CGN to higher the chances on Dorniers. Should know more within a week or two.
As far as I can see there are not much other interesting ways to get back from Zagreb to Holland... Turkish via Istanbul is the cheapest option regular booking websites give me (ar 195 euro). Any other suggestions?

If you can take the Monday off, you can fly them to AMS for about the same price. The train trip to Ljubljana is only about two and a half hours.

Soooo... As mentioned in the other thread I'm already booked for the saturday on SX, returning sunday on 4U to STR (- BRE).

I also finally got my shedule for january now, and eventhough it's not yet fixed, it appears that I've got both days before the flight, namingly thursday the 17th and friday the 18th, off.
Living in Hamburg I'd be more then happy to show you guys around!

Depending on the amount of participants (and especially non-german ones   ) one might consider a visit to our Hofbraeuhaus on friday. While not exactly very hanseatic it's still one of my favourite places for bigger get-togethers.

If the group stays smaller one's got of course a lot more flexibility in choice of venues... This is Hamburg after all!

Also I may offer a limited quantity of floor / sofa space for the trustworthy, budget minded a.netter

And there's a ton of better places.
I will try to keep the 18th free of any commitments. As soon as I know if I will be able to join and we have a better overview on how many are coming I will recommend alternatives and help organizing if you guys so wish.

The Metro might be the Sub(optimal)way

Are you sure about that? It's quite dead out-there and there isn't much to do, especially in winter. Zagreb is a small city, you should better go to Belgrade or eventually Budapest to have fun (most of people from Zagreb do). There is even a direct flight with QR from ZAG to BUD.

I'm off topic here, but do they have 5th freedom rights on this route ?
