Well, we're down to the final couple of games this season, and so far it looks like we're going to have the following based on my opinion:

NFC

East: Redskins
North: Packers (clinched)
South: Falcons (clinched)
West: 49ers

Wild cards: Vikings and Giants

AFC

East: Patriots (clinched)
North: Ravens (it's a matter of time + rant alert!)
South: Texans
West: Denver (clinched)

Wildcards: Bengals and Colts

Now for my rant (and I'm sure you all are going to be very surprised by it, too!)

The Steelers have become a joke of a franchise! Injuries, lack of play/passion/coaching, etc, has just lead to a laughable season. I know injuries are all part of the game, but is it just me, or do the Steelers seem to pile up more injuries than they do tackles or even offensive points for that matter! Their defense is almost non-existant, especially in the turn-over margin -- THEY HARDLY FORCED ANY!!!

Seriously, this is a team that needs to rebuild itself, especially with its defense! How many guys does it take to tackle someone?! I know old people with WALKERS who can tackle better! I'm glad I didn't watch todays debacle at Dallas, but I did watch enough of it to deduce that the defense was not going to tackle anyone. Anyone wishing to tune in to a Steelers game, don't waste 3-plus hours of your time! Go to an ice-capades or a ballet; you'd be better off!!

Oh, and now for part Two of my rant, Philadelphia style

GET RID OF ANDY FRICKING REID!!! AAAAAAAAAGH!!! Not only did they give up a lead to Cincinnati (which is a team I wanted to lose, badly!!), but they gave up 24 unanswered points! Reid, you suck. While they're at it, overhaul this band of misfits, too. Pennsylvania has become a rather dark and sad place in regards to its professional football franchises...

And now, how about your opinions? How did your team do this year?

Actually if Seattle beats Frisco next Sunday and the Rams the week after there is a really good chance they win the west.

Ed's. If New England takes out SF tonight

Refs made the right call. The SF player didn't (barely) touch the ball, and thus the ball is dead where the Patriots got it. The penalty on SF was assessed as it should have been after the play. Hochuli screwed up the explanation with the suggestion of replaying the kick, but the proceedings on the field were correct.

Sorry, don't follow.

When was the last time the Bengals were in the playoffs, 2005? I think yinz can stamp your tickets for the post season and stick a fork in the neanderthals that have overtaken Heinz Field for some reason. They're done. Yes, there are two games left, including a head2head, but the way my team has showed the past two weeks, I have no hope for them.

You know, I find it rather funny. The Post-gazette said right before the Chargers game that the team looks to get hot in December. Wow, if they're hot now, I wonder how they'd look if they were cold!

Quoting L-188 (Reply 6):

The crazy thing is that a few meadiore and inconsistant teams could be in the playoffs as the suggested playoff lineup in the initial post.

By default, the 'Skins could win the NFC East, as the Giants seemed to gone real bad, shut out by Atlanta today and I don't think the Cowboys are ready for the playoffs yet. The Eagles have crashed, I expect a house cleaing of Reid and others booted unless they have some blackmail material on the owner.
The NFC North is locked by Green Bay. Even before the season started I thought they would be the NFC team in the Super Bowl.
NFC West - I wouldn't count out Seattle although they most likely would lose in the first/wild card round due to inexperience of the team.
NFC South - Atlanta is pretty much clinced to win the NFC south but they are another inconsistant team that far too often this year wins by narrow margins. Could lose in their first round of the playoffs.

AFC East - NE is stinking tonight, but most likely will win the AFC East as has no real divisional challanger.Probable SB rep of the AFC
AFC North - Once again a default division winner with the Ravens. They seemed to have fizzled late in the season. I expeced them to be much better and picked them as the AFC team in the Super Bowl. The Steelers have very serious problems and look like they need a real rebuilding.
AFC South - Houston is pretty much a lock for the division title, but they too are a flawed team as the season nears it end.
AFC West - Denver, along with Indy, are the surprise stories of the year. Denver under Payton Manning have a swagger about them that leads to wins. Besides, their divisional rivals are terrible.

2009. When they lost to the Jets.

BTW, the Jets actually have a legit shot to make the playoffs now. Assuming they win the rest of their games (against Tennessee, San Diego and Buffalo), they will need both the Steelers and Bengals to split their remaining two games. The most probable way for that to happen would be for the Bengals to beat the Steelers and then lose to the Ravens (if the Steelers won next week, they'd have to lose to the Browns).

Alternatively, if the Colts lose their remaining two games (Kansas City and Houston, and you'd have to think they'd beat Kansas City), then the Jets would be in along with either Pittsburgh or Cincinnati if one of them won both their games, or Indy if they split.

I take it he's the owner? Sorry, I don't follow who does what higher up for that franchise. All I know is that Lewis is the head coach and some fans have called for his head to roll. One of my friends from college is a Cincy native, altho he follows the Reds more so than any other sport. Actually, I kinda would like to see the Bengals make it to the Super Bowl and actually win it. Would that be an ultimate thorn twisting in the side of Ocho-Moron-o?

And man, what up with New England? Something must be stinking up there in Boston, and I don't think it's the Charles River.

A few points, the NFC east is open and the Giants, Cowboys and Redskins basically control their own destinies. If any of those teams win out they are in which is impossible because the Cowboys and Redskins meet in week 17.

Seattle likely is one of the wild cards and might win the west because NE is threatening a 14 point SF lead. Regarding the other Wild Card there are five 8-6 team being the Vikings, Bears, Giants, Redskins and Cowboys

The Steelers are still in the hunt as are the Jets provided they both win out but neither team controls their own destiny.
Personally, I want the Jets, Bengals, and Steelers to all lose and my Phins to win out and then they have a shot at 8-8  .

Maybe. Phil Emery gets no honeymoon period: the roster needs an almost complete overhaul. He gets spotted a franchise QB, a star wide receiver, a decent running back, some aging defensive stars, and an accurate kicker, but that's about it. The rest needs to be rebuilt.

Quoting IllinoisMan (Reply 18):
3-10 vs the Packers in the last 13 meetings including a home loss in the Championship game.

That's irrelevant. What is relevant is having made the playoffs once in the last six seasons and no Super Bowl wins.

Quoting IllinoisMan (Reply 18):
Can we finally say goodbye to Lovie Smith, Mike Tice, and most of this inept coaching staff?

At some point, but there's still a case to be made for letting Lovie finish his deal if you're a general manager, since that's a position where success is determined by who they hire. I'd give some thought to retaining Smith to buy another offseason worth of roster changes before really taking ownership of the coaching position. Now if I know who my guy is and I can get him, I'm pulling the trigger.

What is clear is that Emery is in control now. It's his call. There should be no more press conferences with Sweaty Teddy talking about all the changes followed by Angelo extolling the value of continuity. There should be no more Lovie asking mommy and daddy for a Mike Martz only to be told "no" and then "yes" when it becomes clear nobody else will take the job.

Quoting IllinoisMan (Reply 18):

Have you watched any of the games? That's absolutely a stupid thing to say. Jay Cutler is without question the best quarterback the Bears have ever had, period. The game has changed. There is no more three yards and a cloud of dust. The Bears as a franchise can no longer insist on lagging behind the rest of the league if they really want to compete. Their offense needs to improve and have better coaching, and I'd hope for either an offensively minded head coach or a strong coordinator.

So often in this rivalry over the last two decades, quarterback play tipped the scales toward the Packers and it did again yesterday. Once again Rodgers out-dueled Cutler, now 1-7 against Green Bay. The biggest problem is that Green Bay has Aaron Rodgers, and the Bears don't.

If you really think that's the biggest problem the Bears have, then you really don't have a clue. Rodgers is better, but he does have better weapons and the gulf is not that wide.

On the list of things the Bears have to fix, quarterback is low on the list.
