A couple of months ago I bought a Krups FDK1 toasted sandwich maker, it's the best I've ever owned, and I've owned a few from Breville, Sunbeam, Jaffel, OBH, Russel Hobbs, most have had poor latching mechanisms, uneven heating, poor sealing and non stick surfaces which didn't last long. The Krups is solid, the latch doesn't look like it will ever break, it heats up fast and evenly and seals the bread well.
A toasted sandwich maker is different from a sandwich press, a toasted sandwich maker seals the bread to make a pocket, much better for making sandwiches with fillings like chilli.

I have two current favorites, my food processor and my rice cooker. The food processor is a standard-issue cuisinart, but I just love all the things I can make in it. The rice cooker is a 3-cup Zojirushi, and is just awesome. The price was higher than, say, a black & decker but the overall quality and the finished product is far superior.
