Last thing sorry. Was just wondering if anyone had things which kinda turned out funny or kinda closed circle or ironic I'm not sure the term sorry in their lives. Or people they know. I can list a couple.
1. As I have written before (sorry) my "ethnic" background is from some minority in the Middle East. Anyway when I was at college/university I dated this girl for a couple of years. She pretty much had zero respect for me (to put it mildly) so it fell apart. Anyway like maybe 8-10 years later I was reading a little magazine thing for my "people's" kinda news and saw her name and stuff. Amazingly someone as selfish as her had actaully become a human rights reporter and had written articles and stuff about my ethnicity. I like to think she now does this because she feels bad for screwing me over but it is more likely because it pays well!
2. When I used to go to this gliding club in Surrey it was from an old WII airfield. One time they were talking of how this German guy turned up one day. He said "last time I was here I was flying over in a bomber or aircraft or something fighting you in a war". They all just hung out and I think they may even have taken him up gliding. I thought it kinda said a lot or something!
Anyway was just wondering if anyone else has stuff like this which they see in their lives or people they know.

Quoting Ps762 (Thread starter):

I went to primary school in Sweden and Switzerland, then the USA and the UK for university. Sweden is small so I know many people on TV, either doing something "newsworthy" or in various media. Plus, it is around my age when people who are going to "arrive" in a prominent position or the head of a company or do something notable in the arts will be kind of cresting at the top of their game, I think. From my time in America and the UK I know a few MPs and a few who have worked at the White House, the Pentagon and at NBC, Disney and other interesting places - I am not really surprised anymore to notice someone I know being mentioned in the media. Usually, when I knew them closely, they were drunken idiots doing shots with me until we passed out. Now we are all respectable - or so it seems!
But the biggest surprise is for me personally: I worked for 2 decades at a large bank and held the 3rd highest position, then retired. I suddenly realised I don't care the slightest bit for money or anything it can buy, which is the exact opposite of my whole life objective until a couple years ago. Part of this is my kids left home, my wife is fine in her career and I just don't have big obligations anymore... but the main part is that I see people driving a €50 000 car or living in a €2 000 000 house, usually in debt to get there, and I see the gigantic fallacy. These things provide no happiness (although they are momentarily fun).
Anyway, I still have another ~30 years or so until I exceed the average lifespan, so I guess more big changes will happen in the world...

Many thanks for the reply. That is cool to read. I think there is some truth to that whole "getting drunk and wasting your life" and then ending up successful thing. I was kinda the opposite though, very conscientious and stuff and ended up very unsuccessful! But I have read of people who used to hang around chatrooms and do nothing and all ending up married and working and stuff so there is definitely something to it I think.
Also once I was on holiday in Norway and the whole country is small TV thing was evident. My friend works there and his friend who is Norwegian also works but is also on TY (or was) in some reality dating show thing. So we would sit having dinner or a drink and they would be talking about him on TV and stuff and what happened this week while he was sitting there with us. It was quite strange I thought but nice.

Check out my response to the worst jobs thread. There's some funny Zippy stuff.
When I get the chance I have to tell my story of my "fake auto breakdown in front of the foxy hot chick cheerleader." And how my aunt let the cat out of the bag a few weeks later. This was the 1970's; need I say anymore?
