Well say it ain't so, a third trilogy of Star Wars episodes VII,VIII and IX is on the way as I heard on EP Daily on KCOP Los Angeles. I found this to be rather sudden since Disney acquired Lucas Film only a short while ago. I heard some rumors some time ago of a third trilogy but then that idea was canceled. I wonder what this third trilogy will be about now that Dearth Vader had died in Episode VI, perhaps its in a post Vader universe or it is a prequel to the second trilogy.

This was pretty much known when the news of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm was announced at the end of October. Disney already committed to releasing Episode VII in 2015 at that time and was reported that the Disney executives wanted VIII and IX.
Now, I don't know what Episode VII will be about, but they may look to pull a story line from the many Star Wars novels that have been released about the post-Vader universe.
As for the subject matter, I doubt it'll be a prequel to the second trilogy (assuming you mean the prequel trilogy) - while that's a pretty wide open area to explore with only limited "official" Lucas titles poking around in the pre-"Phantom Menace" time frame (and in most cases set thousands of years before the events of the film trilogies i.e. Knights of the Old Republic, Knights of the Old Republic II, and The Old Republic), I think it'll be post Episode VI as I recall reading that this will "close out the Skywalker family saga." Perhaps I'm taking "close out" too literally, but that implies an ending to me rather than an intermediate story or a prequel.

I, for one, never really cared about what happened before IV/V/VI. Therefore, I have only seen Part I, and skipped II and III. However, I am very intrigued to see what happens after VI, so the future ones interest me greatly.
