Surprise!! Ford wasn't going to let Chevrolet get all the attention at this year's Detroit Auto Show with Chevy's new Impala, Silverado, and Corvette. So, Ford rented out the Lewis Arena in Detroit (next to Cobo Hall where the Auto Show is held) to unveil what is to be the next generation Ford F-150 pick-up truck. This "concept" version, called the Atlas, foreshadows Ford's new bread-and-butter vehicle, the F-150.
Despite rampant rumors that the new F-150 would use extensive use of aluminium in its construction, the Atlas concept touts that it has a steel box frame. The popular turbocharged "Eco-Boost" V-6 motor will definitely be offered in the next-generation truck, as this motor has proven to be extremely popular in the current F-150.

The new F-150 looks plenty huge with ample space for back seats. The grill in the front looks more angular and vertical from the top down than the current models of the truck. The headlights look almost Silveradoesque the way they are stacked but maintains the Ford look. It look significantly different from the current model at least in the front but I think it is a good progression.

Indeed, we can call this the next-gen Expedition - and the next-gen Lincoln Navigator (with superficial styling changes) as well.
Yes & no. Yes, in the sense that many of the upcoming F-150's changes & upgrades will indeed go into the next-generation Expedition/Navigator. No, in the sense that it will occur for the same exact model year nor necessarily be identical in appearance to the F-150.
Unlike GM which usually changes its larges trucks & SUVs simultaneously, Ford doesn't change the Expedition/Navigator everytime the F-150 gets a restyle. Addtionally, the Expedition/Navigator ditched their F-150's interior & dash for their own unique dash & interiors in 2003. I'm assuming their successor models will do likewise (have differnt interiors than their F-150 bretheren); probably in 2015.

Hmmmm...I'll admit the front end of that thing looks pretty aggressive, but pretty confusing, even somewhat disjointed as well. It's sort of like "Harry, you design the headlight treatment, and Fred you design the center of the grille, and Charles you design the outer portion of the grille, and Samantha you design the bumper, and, oops, Jason we forgot the turn signals...stick turn signals on it and don't forget the obligatory neon-style eyebrows."
And what the hell are these dual exhaust outlets under the rear bumper? (Ram has done this, too) Anybody that tows a trailer doesn't want the exhausts exiting under the rear bumper (but then, maybe none of these will ever see trailer duty).
