You should hear what my oldest daughter has to say about Sea Ray (she was a sheriff deputy in Nawlins at the time) . Nothing I can reiterate here in public, but you may get the idea. ...jack

Nagin allegedly defrauded the city through "a bribery and kickback scheme" in which he received checks, cash, wire transfers, personal services and free travel from businessmen seeking contracts and favorable treatment from the city, the 25-page federal indictment says.

Sounds like part of the job description for Mayor of New Orleans.

Well, you don't spend/take bribes and kickbacks without a return on your investment; this is the basic principle behind political machines.

I can't say I'm all that shocked; Louisiana has a political history of corruption and demagoguery, and the Katrina response taking place on multiple tiers of government (giving the mayor places to hide behind politically.)

If guilty, ex-Mayor Nagin will deserve a prison cell. I must say I smiled a bit when Bill Campell, the former mayor of Atlanta, got sent to jain on a bevy of charges. Sometimes the system does work!

Didn't Marion Barry get reelected after being caught with coke?

It's sad when a politician gets elected because he actually represents his populace, by being from the same crime-ridden stock.

Water seeks its own level.
The best I can tell the electorate of New Orleans considered the actions of Nagin to be acceptable.

I found it interesting that Nagin bailed on NO to Dallas for several days to buy a new house at the start of the Katrina disaster while the residents were bobbing in the flooding and only returned due to media pressure to deal with the problems that the city was facing. Then got re-elected.

Okie

Was your reading comprehension perhaps not enough to notice it was supposed to read "but New Orleans has had a reputation" or just an easy way of upping your post count?

Probably for the same reason I'm not surprised; I remember that scumbag very well, after Katrina; everything he did was bad; everything he said was bad. One look at that dude was all it took to know that HE was bad. That empty skirt that was Governor at the time should have been flipping burgers at Wendy"s; But guess what.......it was ALL George Bush's fault !

Ever since Bobby Jindal has become the Governor of La., and my wife has found out that she has kidney disease and has lucked out to have a fabulous Indian nephrologist, I have become convinced that the Indians are great; (those two sure are anyway); as for Ray Nagin.............throw his scrawny a**s in jail and throw the key away.

And Detroit. Kwame's on trial right now for the same stuff. And why do all these crooked ex-Mayors wind up moving to Texas, closer to the Mexican border and the money they've hidden.
