Today is a great day to be PHX787 because PHX787 just learned he got accepted into the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Sophia University, in Tokyo!
I am currently a Japanese Language student at Arizona State and have found my growth to not be proceeding in the direction I wanted to...so I am transferring to the school which I spent a summer at in 2011.
So come March there will be one more member reporting directly from Japan
If you don't know much about Sophia University, it's one of the top schools in Japan and it's very selective on getting in....so you can tell I'm quite elated right now.
If you saw the PHX Spotters page earlier I made a post.... I'm still gonna be contributing lots to the PHX thread here and will continue to be an admin on PHX Spotters.
See y'all in Tokyo
Come visit me sometime guys, and I'll take you spotting at HND or NRT

Quoting Newark727 (Reply 4): Enjoy Japan, all their airports seem to have observation decks so I'm sure anyone who posts on this website will have a whale of a time.
That's the epic thing about their airports....everyone with a skydeck

Congratulations on being accepted to Sophia. It is always a good feeling to get accepted somewhere. Especially when it is something you really want.
I would imagine your Japanese language studies will be much better as you will be able to immerse yourself into the culture. Will that be your subject of choice there, or are you using the language studies for a hopping point to something else?
Older than I just was ,and younger than I will soo be.

Good job.
It's Japan, so make sure to never ever run out of cash. Especially after hours... Most useless ATMs in the world there...

Congratulations! I went to a university in Nagasaki for a short period of time 10 years ago. I had one of the best times of my life! So different from the Western culture. But you know that already
I hope you won't miss hockey too much!

Congrats on your acceptance! I know how awesome that feeling is to get into your top school. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to your posts from Japan! Dont worry too much about hockey. The Wild are going to win the cup anyways .

This means you won't be at PHX or Ohio anymore, does this mean you have to change your name to NRT787 or HND787?
Congrats on your acceptance to the Facility of Liberal Arts School at Sophia University in Tokyo, you are still one country off from the K-pop girl bands but at least its a step up from University of Michigan, congrats again on your success!

I appreciate it Blue! But we'll see especially when the Wild take on the Yotes

LOL! Well I love PHX and the 787 so I'm sticking with it. I'll be back frequently to PHX and my goal is to have the 787 begin regular service to PHX, thus my name And when that happens, well then it makes even better sense!

Hey dude there's still a sizable Korean population in Tokyo, so it's quite fine with me Thanks

Congrats dude. I'll probably be eventually doing the same and will be continuing my studies here in Japan. Embry-Riddle has been a great ride, but I need to study something different.
Especially since even in major cities, they have a much higher incidence of "Cash Only" policies than what Americans are used to.
What always drove me nuts there is that most of the ATMs are located inside the bank lobbies. So if you need cash after hours, you're probably boned...
Otherwise it's a neat place. One should just never ever admit it if they're an anime fan though, lol...

Doesn't Oberlin University have a decent flight school in Japan?
Quoting gocaps16 (Reply 15): Who knows, maybe we'll accidently bump heads someday in Tokyo.
:D A.net meeting in Tokyo? Sounds good to me
Quoting Superfly (Reply 16): Doesn't Singapore Airlines use their A380 on this route?
They do and it's an LAX-NRT route, soon to be the only route that SQ flies to LAX. But hey, its an A380
I've been to NRT a number of times but I've never seen the SQ 380...maybe it's because it lands either in the morning or evening....

I never had that issue during my previous time in Japan....I always keep a minimum of ¥3000 on me.

LOL I know of some "secret" ATMs (one inside a 7-11, the other near a hotel in Kabukicho...suspicious ) that are open 24/7

....and it's a 4-engine jetliner!
United has their 747 on the NRT - SFO route, but it's United, not Singapore.
Does Malaysian send their 747 through NRT or is it Hong Kong?

Congrats man! Immersion is definitely the only way to go, I can totally relate, I spent two years going to school in Paris likely for the same reasons you're going to Japan, you'll have a blast I'm sure! BTW, I'll be coming your way next week for The Who concert

They're around. But here's the thing, even a lot of those close at after hours time. Like the ATM needs to head on over to happy hour or something. Japan's a cool place, but they definitely have some (surprising I admit) backward habits at times...
At least they love Dream Theatre & Birthday Massacre over there...

26 Superfly: PHX787 would be better off flushing his money down the toilet than opening an account with those crooks. Those are the two worst banks with the most
27 gocaps16: Hmmm, I'll have to research on that. I thought Oberlin was in Ohio unless they have a campus in Japan. I'll be using my Post 9-11 G.I. Bill which wil

30 flyguy89: Yeah PHX. I'll be staying in Tempe with a buddy of mine, some spotting would be great, feel free to PM me and maybe we can work something out.
31 Akiestar: Congratulations! My university here in the Philippines has an exchange program with Sophia and a friend of mine was there for a semester. She absolute
32 hoons90: Congrats! There are up to 29 daily flights from Tokyo to Seoul, so if you want your fix, it's just a stone's throw away
33 britjap: Congratulations! Is that for one year or longer? Here's a couple of ideas with a bit of aviation interest that are easy to do from Tokyo ... Tokyo Ho
34 PHX787: 2 years at least; going to graduate from Sophia! Thanks for the hints, i'll check out those trip reports
35 fraspotter: Congrats! My Aunt attended that school for 2 years in the late 70s before transferring to the University of Hawaii...
