I don't follow American football (hand egg?) but I love the Super Bowl because of the spectacle. As we all know sport is much better when you have someone to support so I want to know who I should be cheering for and why.

If you like a team with a QB who has pubic hair on his chin, go with SF!

Actually, I somewhat prefer SF but not enough to matter nor enough to make a recommendation.

Ravens. Maybe winning the big one will finally get Joe Flacco the respect he deserves.

Plus, whatever you might think of Ray Lewis' past, you have to admire his ability to motivate the crap out of anyone and everyone.

And they beat the Patriots.

Yep reason why I'm rooting for the Ravens, but you gotta love how much of a class character Kaepernick is.

It's gonna be an epic game!

Well, I was about to place a bet on the 49ers. But my gf told me, that she would go with the Ravens. And, with no clue about Football, she predicted the outcome of the AFC and NFC championships. So, my 5 bucks are on the Ravens.

He's having a pretty poor game. Lewis is the best linebacker in the history of the game, but I'm ready for him to retire and go away. Or at least go where I won't have to pay any attention to him when he joins the clown college that is the Booyah network.

The commericials were HORRIBLE!!!!! and if it was not for the "fluke" power outage Baltimore would have dropped 70 on them. How convienent it happened right after that long kick off return for a score that clearly put all the momentium in Baltimore's hands. I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm just sick of Lewis's big "Man of God" act and if you ask him about the murders he was probably involved with he'll say you're working for the devil. Nice career as the greatest linebacker in football, but he's annoying and it's time to leave.

Misplaced anger: I read somewhere that he was instrumental (behind the scenes) in getting the renovations to the Superdome done so it can start hosting Super Bowls again (and to keep the Saints in NO) after Katrina, so they can quit saying that he has it out for the Saints because of the Bounty-gate ruling.

Plus the power outage reflects poorly on New Orleans as much as it does the NFL...

That doesn't seem to placate Saints fans much. Alas, it seems that it was just a fault in the system and not redneck Homer Simpson trying to get some revenge on Darth Roger.

Apparently the power feeds into the stadium were known to be questionable and upgrades were performed this winter, although those are not thought to have caused the blackout.

Considering its age, the Superdome looks as good now as it ever has, inside and out. A lot of money (more than $350 million) has been spent over the last few years upgrading basically everything in the place. That being said, I can't see another Super Bowl taking place in the Superdome. Call it a hunch. The city is looking to bid on the 2018 game. In 2018, the Dome will be 43 years old. I'm not saying this is going to happen because the state of Louisiana isn't exactly rolling in the dough, but I would like to see a new stadium start construction around the 2018 time frame, with a completion date of 2020 or so. New Orleans is a great city for Super Bowls, but as the years go on, the Superdome, even with its upgrades, will just become more and more obsolete compared to the new stadiums. I love the Dome...it really is a marvel of engineering, and every time you drive past it, it really is still something amazing to look at...but in 5-7 years time, serious thought should be given to its replacement.

I agree, stigma has set in, NO is screwed for future Super Bowls.

The Super Bowl is in many ways a national event, and thus the loss of electricity is a national embarrassment.

I did a pretty good news search yesterday and could not find anything telling us what exactly happened.

This makes me suspect it's something pretty embarrassing, something that NO should have done but didn't.

If it's something they can explain, they should have gotten out in front of it.

Given they haven't, its inevitable that stigma sets in.

Interesting. Lots of facts, but no conclusion yet. Seems they upgraded the infra and ran tests on it and even had a few full-house events using it and no failures, yet it did fail on the big night. Will be interesting to see if/when they find the root cause. Hope it wasn't a Li-Ion battery!
