At first I was going to comment that the street wasn't so narrow (by Italian standards) but then I realized that it was a 2 way street. At some point there I actually started thinking it was fake when the religious procession arrived.

It was almost like a Monty Python skit.

But, it was just a Fiat, with all the people there they could easily have just picked up the back end and swung it around if they were that angry about it. The curb weight of a Fiat 500 is around 1000 kgs. The driver still should have been able to turn the car around.
