I just saw Top Gun as a re-release. I was too young to see it in the theaters the first time in '86, but I do remember seeing it on our family's VCR (with the corded remote control too).

I saw it in IMAX format and 3D. I really enjoyed seeing it on the big big screen, although some scenes were really grainy. I'm sure this was due to having to go from the normal movie size to the enormous IMAX size. The 3D effects were pretty sweet though!!

Who else saw this film? Did you like it? What are your thoughts?

I'm sure you meant Blu-Ray not DVD. Then again if it's "some day" it might be its successor, the 4K Blu-Ray.

My older brother has seen it, and that's why he lent books about aircraft carriers at the library..

I've seen Top Gun on DVD. Once.

Now, all I can remember are scenes from Hot Shots.

I hope I get to see it in IMAX 3D. I understand it's only a few days, correct? Top Gun is my earliest movie theatre memory. I was 4 years old. Would love to see it again in a movie theatre.

I have a special edition Blu Ray that contains hours of "making of" material. I highly recommend it! Very interesting to learn about the interaction between the producers and the US Navy.

Top Gun is a movie that has not withstood the test of time well. I saw it when it came out and agian last year when I put it on a DVD. I'll keep it but it is not a classic by any stretch.

Though this was not the actual aircraft used in the movie, the F-5 based 'MiG-28' trick is getting a bit stale.....

It's actually rather depressing to watch the movie these days, especially as a San Diego resident. Fightertown U.S.A is no more... I miss those Tomcats!

I think I was in 7th or 8th grade when the original came out. I saw it in a small town movie theater. My best friend hadn't seen it yet, so I think I probably talked him through the first 30 minutes of the movie over the phone saying it was "awesome!". He finally told me, "dude, I haven't seen it yet! don't ruin it."

Back in the mid-90's I was working for the FBO at a local regional airport and we had a F-14 on static display for an airshow. When it flew in it had a tire problem and I got to tow it in to the ramp. One of my best memories of nearly 8 years working the ramp.

I was in ET "A" school at Great Lakes Naval Station.

I like to watch it just for the different type of aircraft on the carrier, same with watching Final Countdown. Sad that there will never be different types for different jobs,   To see some A-6's, A-7's, S-3's F-14's, E-2's,C-2's,F/A-18's, EA-6's, Sea Kings all on the same deck is so cool.
