Kate Upton makes history by being the first model ever to do a bikini photo shoot in Antarctica for Sports Illustrated. She's also the first model to appear on the S.I. swimsuit cover for the second straight year.

Oh yeah, I mean, poor her - must be awful being flown to amazing locations to be paid a fortune for standing in front of a camera.
Maybe she could warm herself up by burning some bundles of $100 bills.

I'm not an expert, but I do not believe that is true.
You are right - according to the article linked in the original post - Tyra Banks was on the SI Swimsuit cover in 1996 and 1997.
According to Wikipedia - Christie Brinkley was on the cover for three straight years 1979-1980-1981.
Paulina Porizkova was on the cover for two years 1984-1985.
Elle Macpherson was on the cover for three straight years - 1986-1987-1988.
Macpherson's inclusion in the group cover shot for 2006 was her fifth time on the SI Swimsuit Edition cover - the current record holder.

Definitely not true. You not only mis-read the article, but the article itself is very mistaken. She's not even the first model to appear on the cover three times in a row (she was the Inset image in 2011).

That poor girl! I think the only noble, gentlemanly thing is for me to offer to personally warm her up.

For some reason I was too distracted and I missed the Tyra Banks mention on the link I posted!
Million times better than the 90s supermodel Kate Moss, that woman has had luck shine upon her like nobody else in the beauty world, I mean shes kind of ugly and weird looking to have struck gold in this industry, more so since she was in the same league as beauties like Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer plus black beauty Naomi Campbe at that timel, these women were actual beauties compared to Kate Moss.

No she doesn't. She has fake basketballs sewn into her chest.
If they are fake I'd like the phone number for her plastic surgeon, I'd like to buy my wife a set like that for Christmas, they are far far to natural looking and to much bouncing movement to be fake, they look plenty real to me.

They look natural. Also, I remember hearing that she was regarded as a plus size model. Personally I think that's insane. I do think she has quite a
great shape but forgettable face.

Quoting jetblueguy22 (Reply 9): I can't be the only one who thinks Kate Upton really isn't that pretty right? I feel like the only guy I know who doesn't drool over her.
Of course you’re not the only one, but I suspect most guys drooling over her only because of her non-anorexic-looking body and big [already saggy] breasts.
I don’t find her ugly, but not overly pretty either. Her body is fine, much nicer to look at than the anorexic ones, but nothing impressive, either. I dislike her breasts, though, because they’re just too big and seem to be the only reason for her fame.
Here is a photograph of her showing her face without professional makeup and photoshop. Not bad at all, but in no way better than “normal girls” from the street.

My daughter is a professional fashion photographer and she shows me some of her 'before and after' photos for comparison. Some of the 'before' shots are rank beyond belief.

Yeah, I've seen a ton of those celeb shots. Most females have issues sans makeup. Probably one of the ugliest was Cameron Diaz. Woof...
But few have a truly natural beauty. Salma Hayek comes to mind, for one. It's probably more true of latinas in general because of their complexions I'd think.
Most ladies have got them. The photograph I posted is high in contrast and sharpness so it shows her “flaws” very clearly. She is neither ugly nor has she got bad skin – she’s just overly normal looking and nothing special (in my opinion).

That is the problem I have with modelling: Artificial beauty.
The amount of plastic surgeries performed hasn’t gotten lower since Photoshop ® and impeccable makeup has made ugly, normal and good looking women look *gorgeous*.
Don’t get me wrong, many models are indeed good looking, but I’m quite sure that most good looking women on this planet will never enter the modelling business and maybe never would desire to, either.

A bright mind from a marketing perspective, that's why we're talking about it here, many media outlets reported this particular photo shoot only because of the location, you can't go wrong with free publicity.
