Quoting casinterest (Reply 1): To be honest, if it had been my kid. Getting fired would have been the least of his concerns.
There are two aspects to this issue: the immediate reaction and the long term reaction.
If this happened during the days when my son was young, I would have taken the following steps:
- If my son and I were in a row with an obvious drunk, I would have been in the seat next to this person. I would also immediately contact the flight attendant if there were any indications that he were a danger to safety. I assume the FA has a much better understanding of the problem than I do and could determine if additional steps were necessary.
- If this person did slap my son, he would be immediately subdued using any methods necessary. As a father, I will not accept any risk of repeated hits, however small. I would also make sure that he would be met by police upon arrival.
On the other hand, this person clearly has a problem. I agree that I would not want someone with this problem as the head of a company but he should have reasonable opportunities for recovery. I'm very forgiving to a point: if Mr. Hundley had been through rehab multiple times in the past then I would expect an assault charge to result in prison time.
