Quoting bmacleod (Thread starter): I've been out of work since last year. Sent applications to many job ads with few responses. Can astrologers and psychics help someone in their career search and could it be worth their fee?
Yes, they are. After they ripped you off, you're financially broke and you have to take any job that is offered to you.
Solves a lot of job search problems IMHO.
Keeping calm is terrorism against those who want to live in fear.
Most "psychics"/"astrologers" will take you for your last dime, and give you nothing. The best I can say is that the "best" of these people are basically sympathetic listeners who know how to read people's body language and have a gift to connect with people emotionally. It has nothing to do with actually being psychic, but they may make some people feel better.

Devil's advocate here - your state of mind is everything. If it helps your state of mind (only you can judge that) then these kinds of things can be very useful. How you approach your job search, and the actions YOU take, determine your career future. Nobody else determines it; YOU do, by your actions.
So, the point is, if you believe in something, even if it's not real, it could give you direction and inspiration. Which translate into jobs and money!

I might suggest visiting sites like Monster.com, which have numerous articles and forums for free advice and how to improve your job search. From how and where you are looking for a job, if your resume is flawed or good, how you interview, a lack or preparing for an interview or mistakes in your applications, such advice can be valuable and cheap. Talks with friend and family may help you find your strengths and weaknesses but maybe even some leads for jobs.
Consider contract and temp work as can lead to perm jobs or potentially good references, providing income in the meantime as well as keeping up work skills. Also be open minded as to where your skills can be used in related or other fields or employers.
Considering Psychics and Astrologers just suggest desperation. The best and most important concept is to be positive, work hard and smart in the search, get counseling and not give up.
