Summary: 'Robotic man' street performer is doing his thing, interacting with tourists or whoever. A man, obviously drunk or stoned, starts interfering and doing annoying things, culminating with the insertion of a wet finger into the performer's ear. Performer then punches man in the face.

Now, I deplore violence, but I can understand how bloody irritating this would be. So, do you think he deserved it? He certainly might think twice about doing something so stupid in future.

Tough to say. The guy is doing his job and trying to make a decent living. He definitely does not deserve a jerk like that ruining his day (and I don´t think he appears drunk) At the same time, he needs to get a thicker skin. I´m sure street performers get that type of jerks among the public quite often. I think it comes with the territory. I would have stopped my act and warned the guy. Then, if he continues at it, sure, break his jaw.

Interesting. Here in the US, the drunk appears to be guilty of battery. Now, the question is; is battery a cause for self-defense or an affirmative defense for assault?

Legal bull aside...if someone stuck a saliva-wettened finger in my ear, that person would get hit by me.

The asshole deserved it. The best part was he never saw it coming. Good for the street performer for sticking up for himself.

Actually I thought it sounded like he got a pretty solid connect to the face. In reality, a good solid punch still doesn't sound anything much like it does in the movies.

It was definitely justified! If I was that bloke i probably would've done more than that to be honest. I can't imagine how much crap he has to put up with from knobs like this bloke.

Oh yeah, they must take a lot of stick - kind of like the guys dressed up in giant animal suits or whatever at theme parks who have kids stamping on the feet all day long. On the other hand, you must know that you're likely to have to suffer an amount of that when you take the choice to go and perform random things in the street like that.

Fair point. But even still, no-one should have to put up with that, let alone at work!

Absolutely, I've no problem with that. It's just that obviously one has to go into these things with one's eyes open, and it would be pretty naive to expect every single person you encounter in the middle of the street to react exactly as you'd like. Nonetheless, I completely agree that the provocateur's behaviour in this instance was completely out of order.

Wow. He certainly got his comeuppence there. Unbelievable how some idiots like him think they have the right to just go around assaulting people at random.

On another note though, while it was necessary to stop him, you have to be very careful indeed hitting someone with such force that they go out cold. Too many times we have heard instances of people being killed by a single punch, and while it may be relatively rare for that to happen, it would potentially ruin your life to kill someone in such an unintended manner.

I guess a more ideal solution there would be to restrain him and get him locked up, though that of course is much harder than just walloping him.
