How Well Do You Know Geography?

I realize this is the Non-Aviation forum; but this isn't really

"aviation"; this is "virtual aviation"; actually, it's more about

geography than it is about aviation. It will very quickly find out

how well you know where major cities are in Europe.

The only problem with this is......everyone will lie !

If I told you what my score was, you'd say I was lying;

If you tell us that your score is better than mine was,

you're probably lying.

I know a lot of "Europeans" will be seeing this; obviously,

anyone who lives in Europe will know where all the big cities

are at, right ? This little game will definitely find out how well

you know where places are in Europe. So click on the link and

follow the instruction. a "virtual airliner" will take off, heading for

Europe, and it will tell the destination; all you have to do is click

on the destination before the airplane gets there; the problem is,

I think it may be going "supersonic", as it gets to it's destination

VERY quickly ! Be sure to post your FIRST score only;

and don't lie!

http://www.lufthansa-vp.com/vp1/play.html

P.S. Uh Oh......I just happened to think of something.......there are a few
people around here who really fly REAL airliners to some of these places;
that's probably going to give you a big advantage; you're still welcome to
play, but I'm afraid you will be ineligible for the "Grand Prize"......(to be announced later.)

Some embarrassing mistakes, but overall rather do-able for a European.

In America I'd be totally lost.

Nothing to be proud of, I assume. I read Venice and click on Rome - don't ask why, I know where Venice is for crying out loud.

Same here. I can properly locate states (or most of them), but cities would be a lot harder.

27,694 points. I misplaced Hamburg (and yet I know where it is, I just had a blank and not enough time to remember) and Bremen.

I'll try it again, I should trigger different cities.

Good find Charley.

Well, I took notes of each landing, with it's miles and score.
I found round 2 perhaps the easiest, the cities in round 1, unless they are well known, tend to distract.

Round 1.

Milan - 9 miles
Belgrade - 186 miles
Cologne - 108 miles
Istanbul - 9 miles
St. Petersburg - 314 miles. (I'd have done better there if was still Leningrad maybe!)

Round 2.

Brussels - 33 miles
Lisbon - 65 miles
Marseille - 57 miles
Izmir - 58 miles (Got lucky, I knew it was Turkey the rest was a guess within the landmass of that country).
Catalina - 532 miles (I thought it was in Spain, it isn't!)

Round 3.

Katowice - 172 miles (Knew it was Poland, the rest was luck, no borders in this round).
Minsk - 80 miles (Knew the general part of the map, the rest was luck).
Ankara - 141 miles
Venice - 95 miles
Hanover - 98 miles.

Total score = 24753 points.

Not a horrible score but not too good either, I like to think I got nearer to many cities, compared to where Ryanair say they are flying to and the distance from the airport they actually land at!

24752, pretty bad, I kept placing many cities a bit too east.

I wish there was a game like this but about capital / other major cities of all countries worldwide, I've studied some faraway places way more than Europe, just find them more interesting.

Fun game though...
