I can understand suicidal, I can understand ill. This - I have trouble understanding on any level. The poor children. Why on earth would you inflict seeing such a thing on them??

Madness (if it was) can detach one from any sense of reality and thoughts of others wouldn't enter the mind of someone who planned this.

Or he was driven to suicide for some reason or other and hated kids.

Or...

Unless there's a note, any reason will now be sprayed over the classroom walls.

Because suicides, with very few exceptions, are the ultimate selfish act and this guy wanted to go out spectacularly.

Nothing spectacular about it. Could have done it in a far more public setting but instead opted to scar an entire group of nursery kids. Awful.

Yet, it made the international news and we're talking about it here. He succeeded.

You're right, he could have done it on the Avenue de Champes-Elysees and gotten the same coverage.

Unfortunately, someone ill enough to end their own life is not 'thinking normally'. I've seen clinical depression far closer than I would chose to. It was mind-bending for me and I wasn't the sufferer. I have every sympathy for those kids, but it's pointless using a rational mind to try and understand or analyse why he did it that way.

At least he only shot himself.

Now, why would "journalists" speak to the kids right away, especially after there was some outrage here over the same being done in the US, is beyond me.

I know this well, having been in the situation myself. There was, despite a huge absence of rational thinking at that time, still some degree of cognition of the method enacted. He clearly had the wits to pick up the gun and make his way to that place to do the deed, and he could have just done it at home.
