Favorite Queen (band) Song

The band Queen has been around since the 1970s and was best known for their eccentric front-man Freddy Mercury. I personally was never a fan of the group however I really do dig classic rock stuff from the 1970s. Everyone has heard Bohemian Rhapsody or We Will Rock You however I have recently really taken to liking The Show Must Go On. It has an amazing guitar solo and the lyrics are brilliant. Like with anything, I like to read more into things and was very surprised to see Freddy Mercury (as people knew him) was born as Faroukh Bulsara in Zanzibar. He was raised in the Zoroastrian faith (a religion I usually associated with people of Iranian/Persian decent although I now see many Indians also accepted this faith).

So, what would you say is your favorite song by the iconic band Queen?

No question...my favorite absolutely is "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions!!!"

When I was a high school band director, I had a really nice version of that for the band to play at school sporting events.

Lots of good stuff form Queen that I really like, but that one is at the top for me.

As a huge fan of Queen, I must object to that characterization. The band Queen ended when Freddie Mercury died in the early 1990s. Some of its members, though, still like to tour and sing some of the songs.

Hard to choose, but I rally like "Princes of the Universe" - it even made a mediocre film (The Highlander) watchable.

Not really, these are Indians of parsi/persian origin, that includes Mr. Bulsara also. The name is derived from a town Bulsar in India.

Coming to the songs, Bohemian Rhapsody, show must go on and others.

I like far too many Queen songs to pick just one. However, here are a few of my personal favorites and the albums upon which they appear in chronological order:

"Stone Cold Crazy" from Sheer Heart Attack

"The Prophet's Song" from A Night At The Opera
Truthfully, I like the entire A Night At The Opera album. I'll even go so far as to say that if you're only going to buy one Queen album, then A Night At The Opera is the one to get.

"Sleeping On The Sidewalk" from News Of The World
Except for "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions", News Of The World is a thoroughly depressing album. If you buy it, you can't say you weren't warned about that.

"In Only Seven Days" from Jazz

"Dreamer's Ball" from Jazz
If you're only going to buy two Queen albums, then Jazz should be the second one you get.

It's funny, because reading through the thread, my top three kept changing as more people reminded me of other great songs. Which is the hallmark of a great band.

If it's too hard to choose, it means they didn't something right!

Freddie Mercury died in 1991. The Innuendo album had been released earlier that same year. I was working at a record store when that album was released and I became a huge fan at that point. (I remember their early stuff when I was a little kid but they fell of the radar in the US by the mid-80s).
I was so anxious to hear of a tour announcement and wanted to buy tickets but instead we got an announcement of Freddie Mercury's death.
Sadly the band is starting to remind me a lot of pro-wrestling with all of the circus acts they've brought in as a replacement. They shouldn't be allowed to use the 'Queen' name.

Good call!

There are too many to list but here are the one's that stand out as exceptional;

Love of My Life
Another One Bites the Dust
Football Fight
These Are the Days of Our Lives

Queen opened their shows for a while with a fast, hard-rock version of We Will Rock You. That's a song almost guaranteed to get you a speeding ticket - you just can't help putting your foot down.

And then there's the entire Night At The Opera album, which has to be considered their magnum opus, although Innuendo did a damned fine job of it too. They knew that this was going to be the last album, and they wanted to end with a bang rather than a wimper - and succeeded.

In fact, coming back to individual songs, Innuendo is magnificent - sure they were copying Bohemian Rhapsody more than a little, but it worked.

I've done the speeding part. I have 'Killers Live' on 8track tape as well as the LP.
The concert version is better than the radio hit version.

That along with 'A Day At The Races'.
It's hard for me to pick & choose between those two.

I love the classical guitar part in the middle. That is one of their best songs ever.

I forget to mention in my previous post but yes you are correct. Listening to that song sounds as if Freddie Mercury knew his days were numbered and this was his farewell song. When Innuendo was released in early 1991, him having AIDS was just a rumor and no one knew for sure. The group photo on the inner-sleeve of the Innuendo LP, you can see that Freddie Mercury was much thinner and emaciated than before. Also months and months had went by without any tour dates announced. This was before the Internet so getting information was much slower.
Then at the end of the year, he goes public with his battle with AIDS and then died the next day. I still have the newspaper clipping from the Los Angeles Times stored in the record jacket of their Innuendo LP.

I've got an oddball as my favorite:

Millionaire Waltz.

I've always loved it since the first time I heard it. Huge Queen fan here, I'll admit I started as a "Greatest Hits" fan, but have very quickly developed an appreciation and love for the group's music.
