So, it turns out that most of the world's top sprinters have been running on more than just "bread and water". Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and four other sprinters have all had positive tests announced yesterday evening, with rumours of several more big names "still to come".

Given the history of the sport it's hardly a surprise, but it is very unusual for so many athletes to get caught at the same time. Any ideas as to what's going on? Are new testing methods catching people out, or has athletics finally decided to follow cycling's lead and try to announce all its doping scandals in July?

The responses are hilarious though! Powell is trotting out the usual "I never knowingly took anything!" Tough, pal - you're responsible for whatever goes in to your body.

Gay has "withdrawn from the World Championships". Erm, I don't think you can try and make out that this is your decision, mate!

PS. 7 of the 9 fastest 100m runners in history have now had positive drug tests.

I say open it up and let them take whatever they want. I think it'd be awesome to see. It's the Olympics... all about the spectacle in the end.

How long before we discover that Bolt is doped too?

I don't think Bolt does.

But if he tested positive, then it would be athletics "Lance Armstrong" moment.

But..... You couldn't make this up...

It has been for several years. I'm for letting them do whatever they want. They all know what the side effects and health risks are. If they want to jeopardize their health just to be a household name or have a record, let them. In 10-20 years, when they have problems, I'll say "oh, well".
