Bangkok Airliners.net Meet; Planning For 2014

Just in the planning stages. Who is all in?
Many A.netters pass through Bangkok often, would any be interested in taking a day or two out for spotting?
We have two airports to go spotting. Although Suvarnubhumi is the new airport with lots of traffic, the older Don Mueang has better spotting locations and more random, unpredictable aircraft that come & go. Best of all, if you're a golfer you can play a few rounds between the runways.

In case Japan is too expensive to go for an A.net meet, Bangkok is significantly cheaper and just as fun.
I've made attempts at organizing A.net gatherings here in Bangkok in the past but we always end up in a bar drinking and never make it out to the airport.

I personally prefer the rainy season - fewer tourist, less shadows and spectacular sunsets which is ideal for photos. It's also easier for those non-reving on standby passes to get to BKK.
The rainy season is late May through October.
The dry season is the high season. (November - April) Although more bearable temperature-wise for farangs but it's the high tourist season. More expensive airfares and more difficult for those on non-rev.

Should I start a rival Hong Kong A.net meet?

I'll join.

No contest.
We have nice rooms for $30USD per night.
Decent hotel rooms in Hong Kong start at about $100USD per night.

I'm not rivaling Hong Kong or Tokyo. It would be nice to go to them all.
For most A.netters, it's going to come down to price and well, Bangkok would win that hands down.
Heck, it would be cool to have an A.net meet in Manila and the fmr. Clark Air Force base in Angeles City. Lot's of pilots live in that city. Cheap hotels and dinning as well.

Would be great if you can ride jump seat to DMK in a AN-124 or 747 freighter to hand off a 1968 Mercury Park Lane convertible Colony Park Edition when you arrive.

Mazel Tov! You snagged it! Well, I would drive it over but it might take me a few days longer than the west coast.

Not quite ready to break out the Manischewitz just yet. It all depends on if I've been a good boy and Santa Clause rewards me with a treat.

Yuck! Only drink a sip of sacrificial wine when I have to. I'll stand by until I can get a cold shot of Skky.

Clark would also be an excellent idea. Great value and a new destination for most.

No need to twist my arm.
Hotel rates are cheap too. We can all fit in one Jeepney as well.

If you guys are planning an MNL/CRK meetup, count me in and let's see if we can get the other Filipino forumers along. We'll help you out with the language.

However, I also enjoyed BKK, and I'd love to come back soon. Whatever the plans, let's see what we can do about them.

If I'm off I can probably make it since flights are cheap. I'd hate to go in the summer though and of course golden week

My plans for February and march seem spotty at the moment, but maybe middle to late march would be great for me.

Hmm not a bad idea, I can take my holidays in August (2nd week preferably) and I was already planning to go to HKG and then NRT, I could stop off a BKK for a couple of days and then continue to HKG (EK A380 anyone?)

I´d never been desperate to visit Bangkok but hey... why not?.

Do we get a nice city tour on Fly´s Toyota rolling yacht?

MIAspotter.

I think, therefore I don´t fly Ryanair.

Sounds like fun. I hope you can make it! I may do the Thai Airways A380 to Tokyo.
If you do decide to stop off in Bangkok, get at least 2 nights here. I don't care what that song says. One Night In Bangkok is not enough time.

Haha!
All I need is $100,000 (USD) to buy that Toyota Century.
Any donations?

Yeah, I am planning on taking my holidays from the week of the 11th August onwards, 2 or 3 nights in Bangkok are doable, I´d like to check out the city as well. (not interested in the naughty parts or full on tourist areas) and a visit to that model plane shop I saw in one TR is a must!

$100.000!!!!!!!! Insane..

How about settling for a nice cheap and fun Corolla instead? oh wait... fun and corolla cannot go in the same sentence...

MIAspotter.

Even the most innocent places become naughty when I show up.
I can show you several model plane shops here in Bangkok. I know of 4 of them.

So true. I have a few used Toyota Crown Royal Saloons picked out. I should have my car by then.
The car tax on cars not made in Thailand is insane and this would be the first time I've ever financed a car.
Back in the US, I've always bought my cars ca$h.

Put down the dates and I'll be there if it does not clash with work.
Mid June through end Sept weekends are tough for me but you plan what is best for you.

Fly has done his part. Do yours and start a Mnl/Crk meetup thread. I am supporting both.
For the past decade, I've been to Phil (mainly Crk) 3 to 4 times a year. My next confirmed trip is Jan 22 to Jan 31 (for my regular "uninvited VIP" role at PhotoWorld Manila   )
Most weekdays most time of the year is ok for me.

For me, middle to late March, and Golden Week would be prime.

End of july through August would also see me free, but I don't think anyone would wanna be in Thailand during that time

I'd take the Orient Thai 747-300 over the EK A380.
The 747-300 wont be around too much longer.
For A380s, I'd prefer to fly on Thai Airways.

Sawasdee-krup!

This would be my first a.net meet and I am flexible with work. I could fly from LAX-BKK as long as I do not take more than 5 consecutive days off anytime of the year. I only need to give notice the month before the meet.

And I don't care if I fly all the way to Thailand and not do any spotting. Bars are fun! Wooooohoooooo!!!! And think of all of the Delta SkyMiles I will earn! Because if you're not earning miles, are you really on your way?
