I loved their older stuff (w/ Hillel Slovak & early John Frusciante). I saw them in college during the "Mother's Milk" tour - just before they got huge. Man what a show! Here's a story that speaks volumes of their early fans. When I was at the concert, I was on crutches with a leg cast due to skiing accident. I had to "hit the loo" so to speak but didn't want to hobble all the way around the hall, so I took my chances crossing the mosh pit (the beers in me helped me think of that stupid idea). Much to my surprise, the pit parted like the Red Sea (those that didn't move out of the way got a nice shove by some of the moshers). This was too cool.
Anyway, in my opinion, they've gone soft with their new stuff. It just doesn't appeal to me. I miss the old raw edge. Much of it was probably drug induced, but hey, it still kicked ass.

RHCP are awesome. I have BSSM and Californication and they are both excellent CDs. BSSM is a piece of art...there is so much put into it. I have yet to buy their new CD, "Buy The Way". One of my friends told me it was awful but I will just have to see for myself.

They are my all time favorite band!!! I've been into them since I was about 9 years old, which was around September 1989. "Knock Me Down" was the first song I heard from them and it changed my taste in music. Before that I was listening to New Kids On The Block.
They will probably go down in rock history, which is cool, but I think today's younger generation doesn't really understand the impact they had on music. Without the Chili Peppers many of the bands the current kids worship wouldn't have existed(Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach.....etc).
John Frusciante is one of the most underrated guitars players out there. He is a complete genius. I love all of their albums except One Hot Minute. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is my favorite. It is an amazing record, from start to finish, and has such a unique vibe. In my opinion nothing has come close to it since, although BY THE WAY just might.
It is very hard for me to pick a favorite song as it changes daily. Yesterday it was "Party on Your P**sy, and today it is "Minor Thing". I hope everyone enjoys their new album. I can't get enough of it.
