Ok, I'm curious after reading SophieMaltese's thread.

Which is a better vehicle? Car buffs, take the floor. They seem very comparable, so I'm curious which one is better in value, quality, and problems (which has the least common problems).

To be specific, I"m talking about the 1995-1997 Ford Explorer vs. the 1995-1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Thanks!

TB

Nothing beats Ford SUV's.. Theyre the leader. I drive an 01 Explorer Sport and it just turned over 32,000 miles.. Besides oil changes and a transmission flush, Ive had absolutely no problems! I think Ford's stying is better too.. It seems that around the Motor City here there are more Explorers crusing the pothole-laden roads than Jeeps. You've also gotta worry about Chrysler Quality (what an oxymoron).

I drive a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and N312RC is 100% correct about "Chrysler Quality". It's taken a year, over a dozen trips to the dealer, 5 rear axels, 2 rear brake drums, 2 fuel pumps, 1 fuel injector, and 1 on-board computer to get all the bugs out of the bloody thing. Now it runs like a dream, but what a pain in the ass to get it working right. now, I love it since I can drive it without that damned "check engine" light coming on. It is fun to drive, just not as well equiped or designed as some other SUV's.

There is NO comparison between the two.
Nothing even comes close to the Ford Explorer. The Explorer is superior in terms of towing capability, power, features and amenities, turning radius, room, comfort and most importantly; reliability.
And I think the Explorer cost less I could be wrong .
The Ford Explorer is also build on a TRUCK frame because it IS A TRUCK.
The Cherokee isn't. It's a raised car platform.
The Explorer also has larger windows for great photo opportunities on those scenic family road trips.  Smile
The Cherokee and Blazer has much smaller windows.

One good thing about the Cherokee is that it looks good sitting in a upscale suburban driveway.  Smile
I also like the woodgrain side panels that are availible with the Cherokee.

The best Jeep SUVs were the AMC era Wagoneers (1950-1991)

We had a 99 Grand Cherokee and the problems were endless but we haven't had an explorer.

I can't stand Grand Cherokees, and Lubcha, i'm not talking about them!

Jeep Cherokee Sports and For Explorers handle pretty well for their size/power/price range off road.

I don't care about going off-road, I just like the looks and enjoy driving an SUV. The only car I like out there is the BMW 700-series and Lord knows I can't afford $80,000 now.

I don't think the Explorer actually does too well off road, but if you are a power nerd like my brother, you need a lot of room to haul around your nerd gear (tons of computer crap....)

After seeing the crap my mom has been put through by Kenai Chrysler Dodge after they sold her a 2002 Liberty that had been damaged in shipping without telling her. It pretty much as at the point where we have requested paper from the Attorny Generals office.

Why can't a dealership admit that they lack the facilites to perform a paint repair correctly.

AMC/Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler can all go to hell.

Besides the best Jeeps where WWII era ones that where actually built by Ford.

Oh by the way.

As a warning.

That Dodge dealership just bought out what had been a pretty reputable Ford Dealership, Seakins Ford in Soldotna and renamed it Big Bear Ford.

Unfortunatly seeing how they ran the Kenai dealership. I have no hope for any quallity service from the Ford people down there and would recommend that both dealerships be avoided at all costs.
