There's no "C" in Amtrak.

AA 777. What the hell is your problem. a "C" in Amtrak. I am not sure which I am more appauled at. The fact you mispelled it (j/k) or the fact the first response to it has to be that always important "correction".

Amtrak should just put a lock on the door and a "Closed" sign in the window. This may be the end for them.

Yepp, let's stop all train and bus services and fly instead. It's much better for our environment.

I survived an "AmtracK" (misspelled deliberately) derailment in 1980; I was on the Silver Star which crashed in Aberdeen, NC. I still take the train. Planes crash all the time as well and people don't stop flying....Cars crash all the timne...you gonna ban them t00????Please!

Oh, btw, JFKTOWERFAN, atleast the train didn't have to fall 30000 feet after the crash....(LOL)

Curious, but was this train one of Amtrak's vaunted Accela "bullet" (or near as we come) train?

They barely made it past the Fourth of July due to money issues, I can't imagine they will be able to survive this one.

747-451 true....looks like they only had to go 30 feet  Big grin

If you see CNN or any other channel that is showing footage, you can clearly see the cars are not cars from a 'real' Acela train.

Acela Train

Not an Acela train.

I believe the Acela is only used on the east coast runs Boston-Washington.

Ahhhh &%&%*#!

Just what we need when Amtrak is fighting for its very existence.

Just remember, if it was a track failure, it's NOT Amtrak's fault -- those tracks are owned by Conrail.

No surprise. Last November, I was coming home from Boston and some freight train derailed and messed up the lines in the Bronx (I live in Queens). We were stuck in the Bronx for three hours. After that, we got stuck in Queens for another two (and the tracks are about ten blocks from my house). They refused to let me leave and walk home. It was amazing to see all the MTA trains zip by us while we were stuck on the same track. Amtrak handled the whole situation poorly and they will not see my service again.

Hey all, I actually live about 5 blocks from where it happened, same town (Kensington) and all. Its not that bad, a lot fo people injured, but no fatalities. The tracks are all weird, quite a site to see. more updates later.

Sorry Redngold, the tracks aren't Conrail, since they ceased to exist in 2000.The tracks are either CSX or Norfolk Southern,as They both bought out CR and divided CR's holdings and routes amongst themselves!

In 1980, the tracks were owned by Seaboard Coast Line/Lousiville and Nashville. Everyone seems to have owned the damn tracks except for Amtrak over the years. The only tracks Aamtrak owns are the ones the Metroliner/Acela operate on.

I still take the train since it is the only place to get "real food" when travelling as opposed to those beastly "bistro" boxes they pass off as food...BTW, I think it is the only way to go from NYC to Washington, since the time works out pretty much the same.(between the dealys, traffic and the miserable LGA and Regan National aiports)
