Received a call about 2 hours ago where the caller I.D was Ace- and now my mobile phone is completely dead and won't connect to the network.  Sad Anyone know anything about this?

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Well I'm glad it's a hoax - that explains why my phone says 'No network' then  Yeah sure

Is it possible those are just two unrelated occurrences?

A bit of a big co-incidence though! Seriously dude, hoax or not the fact is I have received a message saying Ace and now my phone is screwed! Actually it's just the sim. Unless it's a hoax on top of a hoax, or someone is playing silly buggars!!!

Ever thought about contacting your Network provider and telling them? Maybe you locked your phone by trying to get the pin right and not doing so twice in a row. Easily done when you've had a few to many and are seeing tripple  Big grin

Ryan, according to that URL above, this "virus" will destroy your IMEI code as well. Have you tried entering *#06# on your phone? This gives you your IMEI number.

I entered the code and got a huge long number. I assume that's the IMEI. But having said all of that, why would my phone go done after receiving an Ace message?!!? A bit of a co-incidence - surely not? Now my phone is saying 'card error'. Bollox......

Well, if it was a SMS, I would be prone to believe it a bit more, but a call ?

Have you tried to put the Sim card in an other phone ?
Or maybe just take it off, clean it and put it back, sometimes it's enough.

And before anyone asks - no I am not ILS/Flightlevel!!!! When I get home I'll take a digital photo of my phone (with wierd error message) and post it so maybe that might help?

No a text message, not a call. Not a call. I opened the call (text) and the message was blank, but the user ID was Ace- But a call is the same as a text surely?

Sorry, but this is too much of a coincidence!

Actually, calls and SMSes are completely different. On certain SIM card, instructions can be send by the operator directly to the SIM via some particular SMSes, called SMS PP Data download. That is valid if the card supports Sim Application Toolkit feature.

So, the next question is : is your card SAT enabled (it's not really common in UK). To check it, I need you to check the main menu of your phone (with the SIM card in the phone). Do you have an entry between 'help' and 'organiser ? (it would be something added by your network operator)

No one is calling you a liar. Calm down, we'll figure this out. First off, call your service provider. If they can't find an explanation, tell McAfee to update their listing. The Ace- hoax just came alive.
