The PGA Championship will be held next week (Thursday, August 15-Sunday, August 18) at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Recently, my brother and I have been predicting the top 3 finishers in the majors. I thought I would expand the contest to this forum. Here are the very simple rules:

1) Pick the top 3 finishers in the PGA Championship.
2) Post your picks on this forum by 12:00 midnight next Wednesday night (the 14th)
3) (my brother and I play that we can't use Tiger as one of our picks, but we won't include that rule). Tiger is eligible.

The winner will be the person whose 3 picks fared the best in the tournament. I'll crunch the totals (formula is number of pick, and where pick finishes. If pick is cut after 2nd round, no points awarded) and post the winner late Sunday night.

The winner wins absolutely nothing, except bragging rights until the next Masters tournament rolls around in April.

Since I posted this contest, I'll be the guinea pig and list my top 3:

1) Phil Mickelson (Lefty finally wins one)
2) Ernie Els (dude's on a roll)
3) Tiger

All right, all you duffers/hackers/Carl Spackler wanna-be's, let's see some picks.

For a list of the field of players, see http://www.pga.com/tour/pgaofamerica/championship2002/field.html

Man I'd love to see Phil get a major. But I think Tiger's definitely still in it, even after the British Open miscue. Perhaps Ernie might be in it as well. Other players I'd like to see do well: Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Brad Faxon, Nick Faldo, and others.

Here's my picks:

1. Phil
2. Ernie
3. Tiger

Yeah, I know those are the same that you picked, but that's how I think it's going to shake out.

P.S. Who is Carl Spackler?

Any other hackers want to make their picks?

PS: Carl Spackler was the assistant greenskeeper in "Caddyshack", played by Bill Murray.

Here are my pics:

1. Retief Goosen (This' guy's for real)
2. Ernie Els (Awesome swing)
3. Tiger (You can never count him out)

My darkhorse pick is Jim Furyk. He's underrrated.

Guys, why do you think Phil Mickleson is "entitled" to win a major?

Hmm, I don't recall ever typing the word "entitled." No golfer is entitled to win anything, not even Tiger. But there's nothing wrong with cheering for someone. I'd just like to see Phil get a major because he's a good golfer, a good person, and he hasn't gotten one yet.

PS - I'm also a Retief fan, and I'd like to see him do well. But just because I'm a Retief fan, it doesn't mean that I can't also be a Tiger fan, or a Phil fan, and an Ernie fan.

Rai gets bragging rights until the Masters in April!!!

With the 23rd place finish of Retief Goosen, Rai wins the pool, congratulations!  Smile Figuring out who won was pretty easy, considering Duval, Lefty, and Ernie all finished tied for 34th. Those three were among NormalSpeed, Srbmod, and my picks, 3 of us had Tiger, one had Vijay.

As for the tournament itself, I've got one thing to say.....Rich Beem stared Tiger in the face...and Tiger blinked. That eagle on 11 threw him for a loop.

Tiger's still the best, but major props to Rich Beem.
