I've heard this a number of times, can someone tell me how dpi there are on a standard 6x4 print?

I'm in the market for flatbed scanner, mainly for uploading holiday pictures to a website and I'm considering the Epson 1250 or the Epson 1650, please tell me if I'm about to make a huge mistake.

I know film scanning is far better but that is a purchase a will be making later in the year.

Thanks....Matt

If you mean how much useful info there is in a 6x4 print, there are too many variables to give a simple answer - depends on sharpness, finish, graininess etc.

A more practical answer is that the scanners you mention are easily capable of extracting all the useful info from a typical colour print.

The figure 300dpi is a useful benchmark in so far as it is the resolution usually required for quality magazine printing. BUT just because your scanner is capable of this resolution, the quality you get will depend on the quality of the originals - no scanner can make up for missing detail or sharpness.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm trying to understand why the mods consider the non-av forum is more appropriate that the aviation photography for this thread, it seems an odd decision to me........nevermind!
