Can anyone explain what it takes for a golf course to get the US Open or PGA Champ. Also lets include the Ryder and Presidents Cup. I would also like to know if anyone has any idea if Inverness Club, in Toledo, will ever see another major. They have had 6 the last in 1993 and will get the Senior Open next year but I want to know about PGA majors or the Ryder Cup, this all because it is my favorite course.

I was also wondering if the PGA ever plans on bringing a major or better yet a pro tournament to the Cleveland area. They have had a few majors at Canterbury and it also had a yearly tournament. I did hear a rumor that Canterbury doesn't have the gallary space and will never see a pro tournament again. Can anyone back that up? I just hope that something comes to Cleveland in the future. Are there any courses trying to get a tournament in the area, maybe Sand Ridge or The Country? Or will Firestone always be the PGA's and the USGA's choice as the venue for pro golf in Northeast Ohio. What other Ohio courses are bidding for majors and other big pro golf tournaments?

Off the top of my head, Firestone's South Course is the primary PGA course in Ohio. I think Jack Nicklaus grew up near Scioto, which I believe is near Columbus. Scioto is probably too short to host a major these days.

As you say, Inverness hosted the PGA in 1993 (won by Paul Azinger), and the PGA has sites for their tournament already set through 2011, except 2007 which is TBA. The sites coming are Oak Hill (2003), Whistling Straits (2004), The Country Club (2005), Medinah (2006), Oakland Hills (2008), Hazeltine (2009), Sahalee (2010), and Atlanta AC (2011). (I've the 2002 PGA program in front of me)

The other major would be the US Open. Next year is at Oakland Hills in Michigan, I believe. When I get home, I can check my media guide, and some other info for future US Open and President's Cup sites.

Of course, you've got the annual Memorial Tournament at Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio.
