For those of you who live in NYC in case you wanted to know, O and A were dropped by WNEW. I haven't listened to them in a while, but heard the news on FOX 5 new news at 6.
For those of you who don't live in NYC, O and A had this very controversial radio show in the afternoon (very racist etc..) and were heavily scrutinized by the FCC. In fact they used to be in Boston, but were kicked out after i believe pretending the mayor was dead, and scaring everyone.

Apparently, here in NYC, they offered a couple something for having sex inside St. Patrick's Cathedral. The FCC has opened up an official investigation.. i guess if you're in the syndicated areas you're still good, but i dunno... here's a link to the story.

Before they were in NYC O&A were on WAAF in Boston. They got kicked out of Boston for saying the Mayor Menino was killed in a car crash as an April Fools joke.

I used to listen to it on their cleveland station but all the potty humour got old after awhile. Still good for a laugh here and there though.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Honestly, the worst crime that they committed was not the church sex stunt - it's that their entire show was a rip-off of other shows. Except it was done extremely poorly.

And another thing - Don Geronimo is looking like a 150% radio genius right now. That's the one thing that all these newcomers to the national radio scene have to learn: Don't screw with Don & Mike. Because they always win in the end. Always.

The only good thing to come out of there existence was the 100 grand thing. The guy who "won" summed it up perfectly.

They are not racist. Don't speak on what you don't know. Racist material and jokes is what gets attention, and hence th ename Shock Jock. Some may take it too far, but then they end up getting wacked. Opei and Anthony were/are in Rochester in syndication, but I don't listen to them, so who knows.

Morning shows aren't allowed to have deviant sex in Catholic churches. Only Catholic priests are allowed to have deviant sex in Catholic churches.

I'm in radio and I certainly question that fact when things like this remind me how chronically uncreative radio 'entertainment' has become. At the last station I worked at, two guys went on the air and said Britney Spears was dead. For a joke. Joke? How funny is that? How funny is the fact that Britney Spears has relatives there who called her Mom who called her daughter whose cell phone was off for 40 minutes. What a laugh. These two guys got fired. And immediately rehired in Detroit for more money by a company most impressed with their shock value.

Opie & Anthony will be back. Trust me. Some pagan scumbag in a programming office somewhere is getting chub over all the "publicity" potential.

Now, having run roughshod over my own industry, I'm even more concerned with the reaction by the neo-puritans who now basically run America. One Bush appointed FCC comissioner is demanding WNEW's license be pulled. That's the first high level request for such an action, even since the early days of Howard Stern.

Before you go and chortle how deserving that would be considering the offensive and idiotic act involved, realize what this means to expression in this country.....radio licenses are worth from millions to tens of millions, or in WNEW's case, easily in the hundreds of millions of dollar range. If the for profit companies that own these stations suddenly become paranoid at every little episode on their airwaves...what happens to legitimate controversy? Sex in a church may very well be deserving of a license yank....but what about talking about abusive priests? Right wing Catholics have been sounding like Iraqi press releases lately, screaming about how the world is out to get them. What if they used political muscle to threaten licenses over shows that were addressing the topic? The companies , fearing the loss of their cash cow federal tickets, would silence the debate quickly. And altar boys would continue to be nervous for the foreseeable future.

Bitch all you want about O & A's toliet humour......but if the unscrupulous and offensive "thought police" who scour the airwaves for things to be offended by suddenly have a new weapon in their arsenal to stifle things they don't agree with, then one more chunk of what makes America great gets flushed down the pontifical toliet.

You know, I'd like to know what was Howard Stern's reaction to the dismissal of Opie & Anthony (if he was broadcasting today).

Now you know why Stern's show always run on a seven second delay.

By the way, Heavymetal, on Fox News Channel today John Gibson interviewed Eric Mancow Muller about the whole fiasco and Mancow--who can be up there with Opie & Anthony in terms of outrageousness on his radio show--was FUMING about what Opie & Anthony did.  Pissed Mancow said that the fact Opie & Anthony egged on that couple to do that sex act inside St. Patrick's Cathedral was too outrageous, to say the least.

Errr, no, they're not. You're not Catholic, so who are you to decide what preists do. Mind you that less than 1% of Catholic preists are pervs. Don't generalize.

As for the shock jocks, they'll be back. It's all publicity and money. They were kicked off the air in Boston for claiming that the mayor was dead. And then they got the NY gig.

RayChuang. As a devoted Howard Stern listener, I can say that he was on vacation today, and he does most Fridays in August. As for the 7 second delay, all radio shows run it, especially with people calling in for the fact an F-bomb can slip. Oh,and Mancow is a loser as well. Nothing but a Stern biter.

Sorry Boeing4ever...wrong again. Baptised Catholic. Went to mass every Sunday till I was 18. Indeed it may intererst you to know that, as a professional voiceover talent, I used to be the hot ticket amongst the hierarchy of the Boston Archdiocese to voice the daily reading on the morning cable tv mass...from Cardinal Law's personal chapel in that castle he calls a house.

In fact, for the sake of all the wonderful, mostly Catholic, people who are the closest to me, I continue to call myself Catholic. It seems to be the one faith that is constantly embroiled in open hypocrisy, and the one faith that fails miserably in hiding it. As I've said before, I'll take bad lies over good ones anyday.

And if I didn't know that priests having sex wasn't allowed, then apparently I'm not alone. A great deal of the Church leadership, including the aforementioned gentleman living in the big house on the hill across from Boston College, seemed to have conveniently forgotten too over the past three decades.
