Would like recommendations on free e-mail services and free homepage services with these specifications:

2-5 MB space
Fast and reliable and up for some time
Few ads
Relatively short web address

Also, if I were to put the United logo on my homepage, what would I need to do first? What permission should I seek?

Try http://www.flightsimmers.net They offer you 35 mb. I do not find the ads disturbing. You will get a rather long address like http://www.flightsimmers.net/airport/oceanfreejer/.
If you want to get a shorter one go to http://go.to
They will give you an address like http://fly.to/rorders
This is a link service. When they type http://go.to/eggarg they will be brought to your site. It does not have to be go.to or fly.to. They have many different options. The only bad part of this is a small extra ad.
